Background

UNDP works in nearly 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results. UNDP is continuing its work to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Organisational Performance Division is embedded in the new Budget Performance and Compliance office in the Bureau of Management Services in UNDP. The Division contributes to the advancement of UNDP’s performance and organizational effectiveness by sharing knowledge related to organizational development and providing advisory services and analytics for performance improvements to UNDP’s overall strategic agenda as well as day-to-day business.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision and guidance of the Head of the Division, the objective of the internship is to support the Performance Division/Management Consulting Team in delivering advisory services to clients in UNDP in the form of consulting engagements. The intern is expected to:

  • Undertake research, data collection and analysis to offer relevant and progressive organizational development insights to UNDP offices and teams;
  • Participate in organizational development engagements;
  • Prepare and make presentations to clients in organizational development engagements;
  • Support the facilitation of learning and reflection processes within specific organizational development engagements;
  • Contribute to drafting engagement reports and follow-up actions;
  • Support engagement coordination and internal knowledge platforms;
  • Facilitate internal team knowledge building and reflection practices on a weekly basis to focus team members on continuous learning and role modeling reflective learning practices within UNDP;
  • Support internal coordination and communications efforts;
  • Undertake any other tasks as assigned to support the work of the team.
  • No travel is envisaged for this internship. The selected intern will be required to use his/her own laptops during the internship.

Required Skills and Experience

Applicants to the UNDP Internship programme must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a post graduate degree programme (master programme or higher) in organizational psychology, organizational behavior, business administration, public administration, development studies, international relations, statistics, data science, computer engineering, or other related fields;
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (bachelor degree or equivalent), in above relevant field; or
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree, as defined in the above field and, if selected, the candidate must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Skills and experience:

  • Knowledge and experience in preparing datasets for analysis and presentation required;
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) required;
  • Knowledge and experience in statistical analysis, computer programming or visual design an asset but not required.

Language:

  • Fluency in English required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset but not required.

Conditions of Internship:

  • Interns may be given a stipend according to the UNDP Internship Policies, if is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme;
  • Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship. UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship;
  • The intern will be evaluated at the end of the contract and due recognition of work will be issued in writing.
  • In case an applicant is successfully selected, s/he will be requested to provide electronic versions of the following documents upon selection:
  • Copy of the applicant’s most recent resume or curriculum vitae;
  • Letter from his/her university confirming current enrolment and graduation date;
  • Letter of recommendation from a professor;
  • Copy of his/her school transcript;
  • Copy of passport;
  • Completed UNDP internship application form;
  • Signed UNDP Internship Agreement;
  • Medical Certificate of Good Health;
  • Proof of medical insurance.
