UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of every child. UNICEF has spent 70 years working to improve the lives of children and their families.

Defending children’s rights throughout their lives requires a global presence, aiming to produce results and understand their effects. UNICEF believes all children have a right to survive, thrive and fulfil their potential to the benefit of a better world.

Turkey remains home to the largest registered refugee population in the world. Over 3.7 million refugees and asylum-seekers are registered in Turkey, of whom nearly 1.27 million are children. While the government continues to lead the overall crisis response and remains the largest provider of humanitarian aid to Syrians as well as other groups, the overall goal of UNICEF is to reduce the equity gaps affecting the most vulnerable boys and girls.

The results and experiences in the previous phases of the Syrian Volunteer Education Personnel (SVEP) Incentives Programme showed the positive impact of assigning Syrian personnel to institutions on refugee children's access and retention in education. Therefore, after the completion of the SVEP Incentives Programme in July 2021, a new programme was designed and developed with MoNE and two new implementing Partners. Syrian Support Workers (SSW) Programme aims to improve access to a high-quality, inclusive education system and protective environment for Syrian children and adolescents in Türkiye. The programme will support efforts that promote access and retention of Syrian refugees in the education system, their continued learning in formal, and informal settings and their overall social integration.

The programme also aims to support and enhance Syrian children's and their family's access to social services in Türkiye. This will be achieved by deploying Syrian personnel, who will be assigned to support Turkish service providers inside and outside the public education system.
