Within DRC, the Global Protection Unit (GPU) is situated in the Department of Programme, Policy and External Relations, which is responsible for developing policy, programmatic concepts and strategies relevant to DRC’s operations and deliver technical programme support to operations within these areas. The GPU oversees DRC’s protection work globally, amongst others through development and dissemination of policy, standards and guidance, delivery of field support and capacity building on protection policies, standards, guidance and tools. The working language in DRC Headquarters is English.

About the Internship

The Intern will be a part of the GPU and support the Unit’s work to support knowledge and information management, development, communication and dissemination of global Protection policy, standards and guidance, and the delivery of thematic events.

Under the guidance of GPU colleagues, the intern will support 1) Knowledge, information management and documentation (40%); 2) Contribute to the development and rollout of policies and guidance (30%); and 3) Contribute to preparation and delivery of thematic events (30%).

Areas of Work

Information and Knowledge Management

  • Information management, including surveys targeting protection professionals
  • Maintain and support the GPU knowledge management, including repository of policies, standards, guidance, tools and reference documents and the Protection Sector’s intranet page

Development and Rollout of Protection Policies & Guidance

  • Develop and support GPU communication and rollout of protection policy efforts
  • Contribute to the development of protection policy and guidance (e.g. Community-Based Protection and Psycho-Social Support)
  • Contribute to the continued rollout of the Age, Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming (AGDM) Policy

Preparation and Delivery of Thematic Events

  • Support in the development of protection related podcasts and webinars
  • Contribute to preparation and delivery of thematic events
  • Coordinate and support GPU administrative tasks, including monthly / bi-monthly Protection Coordinator meetings and the planning of the annual Global Protection Network meeting.

Your profile

  • Available for an internship between January and July 2022 (we are flexible about the specific timing and can adjust based on your study program)
  • Currently studying at BA or MA level
  • Interest in humanitarian work, forced displacement, human rights and international collaboration
  • Creative competencies and ability to think outside of the box, in order to identify and develop engaging and stimulating channels through which to communicate to a target group
  • Analytical skills and ability to grasp and communicate abstract concepts
  • Technical skills in relation to MS Office products. Additional experience working in Sharepoint and with audio-editing software will be an asset
  • Is able to and possesses relevant permits to work in Denmark throughout the internship period.

Conditions

  • You must ideally be able to begin the internship by late January 2021 or first half of February and commit to an internship of five-six months.
  • The internship is a learning opportunity targeting students. You must therefore be enrolled in university studies during your internship period.
  • Please note that the internship is unpaid. Interns are included for free in DRC’s lunch scheme, provided the lunch scheme is running. Working hours are 37 hours per week Monday through Friday, with 2 leave days per month.
  • As an intern with the GPU, you will be working at the DRC Headquarters in Copenhagen and report to the Head of the Protection Unit. You must therefore be in possession of an EU work permit in order to take up the internship.
