It supports good water and sanitation, child health and nutrition, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. The WASH Section in Programme Division contributes to achieving the results stipulated in the new Strategic Plan 2022-2025, particularly as relate to Goal Area 4. WASH’s priorities include providing access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene services in schools as well as in health care facilities and communities, all of which contribute to the achievement of targets in Sustainable Development Goals 4, and 6 and other interlinked goals.

How can you make a difference?

Purpose and Objective:

The purpose of hiring an Intern is to provide support to the Water and Environment Team to deliver on key priorities in the annual workplan for WASH in Institutions, in particular, knowledge management- Share Point, Yammer Community of Practice and WASH in schools website- https://www.winsnetwork.org/ to strengthen learning and exchange of ideas, experiences, knowledge and skills amongst UNICEF staff and WASH in schools partners. This exchange will help enhance WASH in schools programme design and delivery.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. Conduct a survey on the use of the WinS network website to assess user satisfaction and gaps in design and make recommendations to strengthen it. This role includes preparing a survey tool and questions and conduct of the survey itself as well as analysis.
  2. Provide support to the WASH specialist in the development, review and dissemination of knowledge products (WASHFIT, WinS Strategy, guidance documents, case studies, field notes) to help countries strengthen their knowledge to scale up WASH in schools and WASH in health care facilities services.
  3. Support the WASH Specialist in the organization of global webinars and calls with partners and disseminate webinar summaries/ reports.

  4. Assist the WASH Specialist in the maintenance of Yammer Community of Practice for WASH in schools, WinS Network website and WASH in schools SharePoint page.

  • Regular maintenance of the Yammer Community of Practice for WASH in schools/ curation, upload of new publications, tools, updates, to the Yammer platform and respond to questions and inquiries from the community to keep them engaged.
  • Facilitate and support knowledge exchange and experience sharing through the Yammer Community of Practice with the aim of galvanizing WASH in school’s network members and to generate knowledge to improve programming.
  • Prepare quarterly analytics on Yammer Community of Practice and WinS website to show usage.
  • Ensure WinS website is up to-date by uploading new resources and reviewing submissions form partners.
  • Liaison with Phoenix- developer and maintainer of WinS website, GIZ and ICTD where needed on WinS website maintenance and support processing of invoices for maintenance of the website by Phoenix.
  • Upload new resources/ publications to the SharePoint Page on WASH in schools.

5. Carry out any other duties related to WASH in schools assigned by the WASH Specialist.

The UNICEF Internship Programme offers eligible/qualified students at both Headquarters and country offices the opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff. This internship is for the purpose of acquiring organizational knowledge of rules, regulations, and processes to supplement academic and theoretical knowledge.

Location:

The internship will be Remotely conducted, and it is not expected that the intern will travel during the assignment period.

Once in a while the intern will be expected in office.

Duration: This will be a full/part time internship and the duration will be 6 months, starting

22 April 2022- 21 October 2022.

Salary/Payment:

  • Hiring Office will pay the intern/interns a monthly stipend of 1,700.00 as a contribution towards their living expenses. This stipend will be prorated based on actual worked days/hrs in case of part time internship(s). The stipend is not counted towards taxable income.
  • There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship. UNICEF is not responsible for obtaining any necessary visas.

Insurance: UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work. If accepted, the intern will be required to provide a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on conditions regarding service as an intern.

Living Conditions and Working Environment:

S/he will work with hiring section and report to the supervisor of this internship. S/he is not expected to travel out of this duty station during the assignment. A flexible workspace will be provided. The intern will be expected to participate in Section's meetings, as well as other UNICEF meetings of interest to the student, including the seminar series for UNICEF interns. Guidance will be provided on a regular basis.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in the area of Global Gender Studies, Development Studies, Human Rights, Global Studies or Social Work; or other relevant studies.

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
