The purpose of this internship is to gain support for the regional B4R strategy. This will occur over a six-month period, starting in September 2020. This internship will provide the successful candidate with exposure to the working environment of a multilateral organization and a better understanding of how the private sector can engage with and support UNICEF's mandate to safeguard the rights of every child, everywhere.

How can you make a difference?

Working directly under the supervision of the Corporate Alliances Specialist, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Support consolidating information by themes, sectors and topics to facilitate easy search and knowledge sharing through trackers and documents that offer up to date information for country offices
  • Support the development and maintenance of a knowledge-sharing platform (internal and external), in coordination with UNICEF ROSA's ICT team, using SharePoint.
  • Compile a weekly newsletter for the regional B4R team with relevant resources, tools and guidance, to promote the regional and global partnership priorities
  • Support the development of case studies and best practices. The intern will collaborate with country offices, undertake research, and support the writing of the case studies.
  • Other tasks as needed, including support on internal processes, research, and support for Regional Office or Country Office projects.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

    • Be at least 18 years old and enrolled in a graduate or Ph.D. degree program, or have graduated from one within the past two years
    • Background in business, economics, communication, journalism, politics or similar discipline
    • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records
    • Fluency in English, written and spoken

    • Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to distil lengthy and often complex content into brief summaries

    • Knowledge of child rights and UNICEF's engagement strategy with business (or keen willingness to learn) is an asset
    • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and be flexible in daily workings
    • Ability to work in a diverse environment
    • Knowledge of standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and computer skills such as SharePoint

    • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. Father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office, and have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to

UNICEF’s General Terms and Conditions

The successful intern will be governed by the following conditions:

  • Status: Although not considered a staff member of UNICEF, the intern shall be subject to the authority of the Executive Director and the authority delegated by her to the Division Director and Heads of Offices. Interns are not entitled to the privileges and immunities accorded by member states to UNICEF's officials and staff members.
  • Financial support: UNICEF will provide a monthly stipend in accordance with UNICEF rules and recommendations. Interns must make own arrangements for living expenses. Living accommodations and other expenses are also their own responsibilities. Travel costs to and from the duty station will be negotiated according UNICEF's rules and regulations.
  • Medical health and coverage: UNICEF accepts no responsibility for costs or fatality arising from illness or accidents incurred during the internship; therefore, the intern must carry adequate and regular medical insurance.
  • Confidentiality and publication of information: An intern, you will respect the confidentiality of information that you collect or are exposed to at UNICEF. No reports or papers may be published based on information obtained from UNICEF without the explicit written authorization by the Head of Office or Division Director.
  • Employment prospects: The UNICEF internship programme is not connected with employment and there is no expectancy of such. Interns cannot apply for posts advertised internally to UNICEF staff during the period of internship.

This is a remote Internship, however should travel to the duty station become necessary and not covered by the University, UNICEF regional office will support the Intern’s round trip travel costs up to $1000. UNICEF will also provide a monthly stipend in accordance with UNICEF rules and recommendations – if this is not covered by the University. All other costs will be borne by the university/candidate.
