Since 2011, UNICEF has worked closely with donors, partners, and the government to support basic service provision, to build a protective environment for children, and to contribute to evidence generation and evidence-based policy dialogue. Gender, youth, and children on the move are critical cross-cutting priorities. UNICEF has Annual Work Plans signed with relevant line ministries to ensure collaboration with government counterparts. UNICEF has also provided humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable people in Libya, in line with the Humanitarian Response Plan and the Humanitarian Action for Children.

UNICEF is implementing a social protection programme in Libya with the objective of all boys, girls and adolescents in Libya having access to inclusive, shock-responsive and child-sensitive social protection and lives free of deprivations. An inclusive social protection system is the backbone to strengthen the social contract in Libya.

To achieve this UNICEF Libya county office is seeking the support of a dynamic intern to assist the Social Policy team in undertaking its ongoing projects to improve social protection outcomes.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Engage with national partners and international agencies to ensure documentation, follow up and support advocacy and coordination as necessary with government stakeholders and other partners (IPC-ID, UNDP, ILO, WFP, etc.) in relation to social protection activities as per the agreed work plans.
  • Attend and facilitate all Social Policy related meetings including pillar 3 Social Protection Sub-group and document with minutes key decisions from the Task Force.
  • Support the organization of trainings organized by UNICEF for the Government teams.
  • Provide all administrative and logistics support needed including key documents translation to ensure all meetings related to social policy are finalized.
  • Ensure UNICEF is well presented in the monthly coordination meetings.
  • Engage with technical department to supports correct and compelling use of data and evidence about children’s overage by national social protection programme and keep track of the number of Libyan children benefiting from the child support programmes.
  • Coordinate all stakeholders’ engagement and communications throughout the policy consultation, design, and implementation phases.
  • Escalate or refer policy advice or requests in accordance with established procedures.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in Economics, Public Policy, Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Science, or another relevant technical field
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Be proficient in English and Arabic languages
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.​​​​​​​
