For every child, How can you make a difference?

The specific tasks may include:

• Support the digitalization of the Govt monitoring and implementation matrix for the UNCRC and 2018 Concluding Observations

• Research on specific subjects related to child rights education

• Support the development and roll out a module on child development focusing on the UNCRC with Govt and other counterparts

• Support the development and roll out of a child friendly tool kit on UNCRC via children’s clubs and the child friendly city initiative in Batticaloa
• Conduct a mapping of CSOs/NGOs working on promotion of child rights; development of concept note on establishment of coalition for child rights in Sri Lanka
• Taking courses as per guidance provided by the Social Policy Team in Agora related to child rights and other relevant areas
• Preparation of briefs, presentations, concept notes and reports etc.
• Any other reasonable task assigned by the supervisor

Learning opportunities for the intern:

• General understanding of the mission of UNICEF, the main programmes implemented in Sri Lanka on Social Policy such as the Child-Friendly-City Initiative etc.
• Insight and hands-on experience in UNICEF’s role in promoting children’s rights;
• Insight and hands-on experience in organizing and running complex projects;

• Becoming familiar with working in a United Nation’s agency and in a multicultural environment.

  Expected outputs:

• Maintenance of notes capturing the day-to-day tasks undertaken, meetings attended etc.

• Products related to assigned tasks.
• End of Assignment Report

Duration: 6 months (tentative start date: 15 February 2021)

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have the following

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

• Education: Recent LLB or International Relations graduate, student reading for final year of LLB or international relations; other relevant degree with a demonstrated commitment to children’s rights.
• Interest: Interest in development-related fields, humanitarian work, and children’s rights;
• Language skills: Excellent written and spoken proficiency in English and one of the National Languages (Sinhala / Tamil)
• Internet proficiency as well as proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
• Good oral and written communications skills and demonstrated research abilities and interest
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records and references.
• Proactive, self-starter and team-player attitude
• Additional consideration will be given for any past experience.

UNICEFs General Terms and Conditions The successful intern will be governed by the following conditions:

• Status: Although not considered a staff member of UNICEF, the intern shall be subject to the authority of the Executive Director and the authority delegated by her to the Division Director and Heads of Offices. Interns are not entitled to the privileges and immunities accorded by member states to UNICEF's officials and staff members.
• Financial support: UNICEF will provide a monthly stipend in accordance with UNICEF rules and recommendations. Interns must make own arrangements for living expenses. Living accommodations and other expenses are also their own responsibilities. Travel costs to and from the duty station will be negotiated according UNICEF's rules and regulations.
• Medical health and coverage: UNICEF accepts no responsibility for costs or fatality arising from illness or accidents incurred during the internship; therefore, the intern must carry adequate and regular medical insurance.
• Confidentiality and publication of information: An intern, you will respect the confidentiality of information that you collect or are exposed to at UNICEF. No reports or papers may be published based on information obtained from UNICEF without the explicit written authorization by the Head of Office or Division Director.
• Employment prospects: The UNICEF internship programme is not connected with employment and there is no expectancy of such. Interns cannot apply for posts advertised internally to UNICEF staff during the period of internship.

Should travel to the zone office/s become necessary, UNICEF Sri Lanka country office will support according to UNICEFs rules and regulations. UNICEF will also provide a monthly stipend in accordance with UNICEF rules and recommendations if this is not covered by the University. All other costs will be borne by the university/candidate.
