For every child, results Knowledge management, communication and coordination efforts are essential for the Social Policy Unit [SPU] in LACRO to mobilize support and strengthen partnerships with governments, donors, other agencies of the United Nations System, civil society organizations and communities so that all children and adolescents in the LAC Region can fulfil their right to an equitable chance in life, in line with the UNICEF Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and the SDGs 1, 10, 11 and 16. The Social Policy Team in LACRO produces high quality and policy-relevant evidence to inform regional and country-level policy dialogue in support of strengthened social protection systems, care policies, public financing for children and child poverty measurement. It also supports coordination among regional actors working in social protection and providing cash transfers in response to emergencies. These efforts, intended fundamentally at facilitating the development of common views and plans for cash-based responses to the Region’s most pressing crisis, as well as the cross-learning among countries, is done primarily through the co-leadership of the Regional Cash Working Group.

Knowledge generation, its dissemination and discussion, as well as communication of this efforts for internal networks, regional working groups and external audiences, are strategic both to build capacities in countries, assure coordinated interventions on the ground and support advocacy and leverage funding for Social Policy and Social Protection work in LAC.

Job Context Under the guidance of the Social Policy Regional Adviser and in close collaboration with the Social Policy Specialist, the purpose of this internship is to support the design and implementation of LAC Regional Office’s Social Policy and Social Protection related to knowledge management initiatives, as well as to support regional coordination efforts in social protection in emergencies. As the creation of engaging content and the management of the knowledge generated in LACRO needs to be integrated into an overall strategy, the intern will work in collaboration with the Communications Team, besides the Social Policy Team.

How can you make a difference? The intern will work within the UNICEF Social Policy Team in the LAC Regional Office and will have the opportunity to contribute to make a large impact on the knowledge management and coordination efforts led by UNICEF in this sector. Specifically, the intern will support knowledge management and coordination efforts of the Social Policy Unit through:

- Production of relevant social media messages based on the evidence produced by SPU and partners, and work on priority areas. - Development and management of a regular newsletter for the regional network in close collaboration with regional specialists and country offices. - Organization of regular webinars / events with internal and external audiences on behalf of UNICEF’s SPU. - Facilitation of regular and ad-hoc meetings of the Regional Cash Working Group, following and operationalizing the Annual Workplan. - Supporting the preparation of draft documents for collection of feedback among members of the Regional Cash Working Group. - Update of members’ list, dissemination and mailing lists and generation of communication pieces/mechanisms for the Regional Cash Working Group, as needed. - Development of one/two-pagers on specific programmatic content for showcasing and dissemination of UNICEF’s work.

The main deliverables are: 1. Monthly reports detailing activities and results obtained in the following areas of support: - Production, dissemination and monitoring of web and social media content. - Development and management of the Regional Social Policy newsletter. - Organization of regular webinars / events on behalf of the SPU. - Development of one/two-pagers on specific programmatic content. - Support provided to the Regional Cash Working Group. 2. One final report presenting both the results achieved as well as a plan for systematizing knowledge management / communication activities within the SPU.

Benefits for intern - The intern will acquire direct practical experience in knowledge management and coordination of Social Policy related work. The intern will become familiar to UNICEF’s work in social protection, including cash transfers, public finance for children, child poverty measurement and local governance, with focus on the two regional priorities [care systems and inclusion of people with disability]. - The intern will also directly collaborate with regional policy experts within and outside UNICEF [through liaising with partner organizations] and become part of policy debate and coordination forums in LAC, obtaining a strong understanding of regional efforts around social protection, care systems, disability, and the use of cash transfers in emergencies/humanitarian settings. - The intern will gain professional experience working and supporting the Social Policy team of the Regional Office and Countries Offices from the Region.

To be considered for an internship with UNICEF, applicants must meet the following requirements: - Be at least 18 years of age. - Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme [master’s or higher] or be a recent graduate [within 2 years] in political science, economics, international relations, or another related social sciences field. - Have strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records or, if not available, a reference letter from an academic supervisor. - Research experience will be an asset, research in social policy will be a strong asset. - Applicants with experience in social media management and/or content creation will have an advantage. - Experience organizing events will be an asset. - Be fluent in Spanish and English. - Have no immediate relatives [e.g. father, mother, brother, sister] working in any UNICEF office. - Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to. - Are not disqualified under the UNICEF Child Safeguarding Personnel Standards (DHR/STANDARDS/2019/001), or as amended.

Modality, start date and duration: This is a part-time internship [20 hours per week], with an initial duration of 26 weeks, and a maximum duration of 52 weeks. The estimated start date is 1 July 2022.

Workplace: This is a home-based remote internship. The intern is not expected to travel during the assignment. The intern is expected to have his/her own resources, equipment, and tools to complete this internship [e.g., laptop, internet, Teams, etc.].

Monthly fees: The selected intern will receive a monthly stipend, that will be determined according to UNICEF rules and regulations.

Insurance: The selected intern must demonstrate a proof of medical insurance prior to the beginning of the internship and must be valid for the entire duration of the internship. In the duty stations where UNICEF provides medical evacuation, the medical insurance that the intern holds should include provisions for medical evacuation.
