Internship Security Division (Communication Team)

Homebased for WFP HQ Rome

Brief description of the Division:

The Security Division provides specific knowledge of threats and risks in a country or region. The Security Division, under the framework of the UN Security Management System, ensures these operations consider the safety and security aspects of its personnel, facilities, and assets, including the assessment of threats and risks to operations in a country or region, resulting in advice on mitigation and prevention measures.

The Security Division is seeking to fill two intern positions in its front office, focusing on information management, communication and copywriting. The objective of the Security Division’s internship program is to develop and prepare young talent by providing opportunities for the candidates to gain workplace experience (remotely), expand knowledge, refine career goals, and build professional networks, including mentors and valuable contacts. The interns will learn to work in a dynamic remote communications team supporting the division in the areas of security risk management, operational planning, crisis management, context and conflict analysis, and humanitarian access.

Duties and responsibilities

The Security Division invites qualified candidates to apply for the internship program. Opportunity is available in the Division's Front Office, in the communications team.

The intern will perform the following duties:

  • Help in preparing, reviewing, and editing official documents, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Attend and summarize conferences and meetings.
  • Conduct research, including document, legal and internet searches.
  • Help during conferences and meetings.
  • Assist in developing the information management framework, searching, classifying, and organizing SEC documents in the appropriate corporate platforms.
  • Review communications products such as reports, manuals, guidelines, presentations, and intranet content, ensuring a high level of consistency, accuracy, and alignment to corporate platforms for various audiences.
  • Creation of content for internal engagement (short posts for digital platforms, Yammer, online events).
  • Fulfill other duties as required.

Qualifications and Education

To qualify for an internship with the World Food Programme (WFP), the applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school Programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Excellent command of English; Working knowledge of a second UN language would be an asset.

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

Understand WFP and the contribution we make to saving lives and changing lives.

Understand the contribution of Security Division to achieving that mandate through its different functions of operations, policy and enabling and the front office.

Demonstrate experience working in teams, drafting, and reviewing communication documents.

Learnt and been immersed in the work environment and demonstrated ability to collaborate with others.

Terms and Conditions:

Interns will receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$ 1,000.

WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.

Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters.
