How can you make a difference?

Under the overall guidance of the Director of ECW and the direct supervision of the Chief, Coordination and Strategic Planning, who leads ECW’s Strategic Planning and Accountability Unit, the intern will provide technical and operational assistance to various processes. This will be done through the application of theoretical and technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing and presenting data and analysis while learning about organizational processes to support the implementation of the ECW workplan. The internship will be full-time, and the intern will be based at the ECW Secretariat in New York (working remotely initially in alignment with COVID-19 management plans for the UN).

Internship Responsibilities

The intern will work primarily with ECW’s Risk and Safeguarding Manager across the ECW investment portfolio to:

  • gather risk management data from grantees, providing feedback and follow-up as needed;
  • maintain ECW’s risk management database and dashboard;
  • review and analyse risk data, undertake trend analysis and contribute to ExCom risk reports;
  • contribute to position papers for ECW’s ExCom on safeguarding and risk management;
  • develop safeguarding and risk management templates, tools and guidance for grantees; and
  • monitor risk trends, identify emergent risks and maintain risk and issues registers.

Benefits

  • Interns will receive a stipend of US$1,700 per month.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants should be enrolled in an undergraduate, Masters or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years;
  • Have an academic background in any of the following fields with courses undertaken in risk management and/or statistical analysis:
  • Economics/finance/business/actuarial science/risk management
  • Quantitative analysis: data analysis, impact evaluation, applied statistics
  • Project management or related fields
  • Education, social work, psychology or law
  • International development/human rights/humanitarian affairs

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of application;

  • Be proficient in English, knowledge of Spanish and/or French desirable;
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by university records; and
  • Have no immediate relatives working with UNICEF or in the ECW Secretariat.
