Our programmes focus on improving the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the Kingdom, irrespective of their nationality, gender, religion or background. Our main pillars include: Child Protection; Education; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene; Adolescent and Youth Engagement; Health and Nutrition; Social Protection; and Operations.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Social Policy Specialist, the intern will provide support the implementation of current programs by the Social Protection & Policy Section and contribute to the review and development of policy briefs and advocacy materials. Supervision and guidance will be provided on a day-to-day basis, and regular meetings will be organized to provide guidance and advice, if necessary. The intern will be exposed to learning and personal development opportunities within UNICEF and with the partners including humanitarian response. The intern will have the opportunity to engage and support some of the current priorities by UNICEF Social Protection & Policy Section- examples:

  • Project on supporting the implementation of “Jordan’s National Social Protection Strategy”
  • Review of Public Spending on Social Protection and Climate Change
  • Socio-economic assessments, vulnerability measurements, and updated date on the situation of children
  • Project on “Building a Shock-Responsiveness Social Protection System for Jordan”
  • Annual Reflection Report on the state of Social Protection Sector in Jordan

Furthermore, the intern is expected to assist with the following:

  • Support in developing two policy briefs on key office priorities in the are of social policy.
  • Support in providing technical review of studies and reports.
  • Carry out data collection exercises and support with data analysis and report writing activities
  • Support the daily implementation of specific project activities led by the Social Policy & Protection Section.

Modality: Paid Internship- Fulltime

Tentative start date: December 2021 / January 2022

Duration: 5 months

Location: Amman, UNICEF Jordan Country Office

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education: Be enrolled in an undergraduate, PHD or graduate degree programme, or have graduated within the past two years, preferably in the field of Human Rights, Public Policy, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Political Science, Economics, International Relations or other related fields.

Experience and Skills:

  • Strong research, writing, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to write complex reports, editing skills and demonstrated experience in drafting reports and proposals.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university records.
  • Previous work experience in the humanitarian or development sector considered an asset.
  • Strong demonstrated skills in research (quantitative and qualitative) and data analysis
  • Strong background in Public Economics and Public Finance is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated capacity in providing support to planning and implementation of activities, including coordination and event management skills.
  • Experience in data collection and analysis software (STATA/ NVivo) is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Arabic is considered an asset.
