The Division of Financial and Administrative Management (DFAM) at UNICEF safeguards the financial resources entrusted to UNICEF for the survival, development and protection of the world’s children by maintaining and improving financial and administrative systems and procedures to ensure efficient, cost-effective and transparent utilization of these resources.

The Office of the Comptroller is looking for an intern that supports the team of Business Analysis Specialists by carrying out a range of technical and analytical tasks, to help streamline and enhance the Oversight and Internal Controls function information management and analysis to ensure timely and effective reporting, consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations.

How can you make a difference?

Under the close supervision and guidance of the Business Analysis Specialist, the DFAM Intern may work remotely and/or may be required to be in the office in line with the UNICEF NYHQ recommendations and divisional arrangements.

In agreement with the supervisor, the intern will assist the Business Analysis Specialist with the following key support objectives

Key support 1: Data visualization & Content Management

  1. Review and update the UNICEF Audit SharePoint Site to ensure audit content of the past 5 years, permissions and user experience is adequate for offices, divisions & external auditors.
  2. Review and update DFAM Internal SharePoint site to reflect the new structure of the division and update the sections’ terms of reference for the organization.
  3. Assist with the development of the JIU SharePoint solution to ensure that relevant content from the past 5 years is captured.
  4. Review current and recreate PowerBI Dashboards to support reporting on external audits by ensuring they are set for purpose and source data is adequately mapped.
  5. Enhance reporting solution or innovate for the UNBOA, OIAI, JIU recommendations and maintain and enhance the presentations related to the UNBOA/OIAI/JIU status.
  6. Review solutions to report on the Fraud Risk data in the eGRC tool to support assessment.

Key support 2: Oversight Knowledge Management

  1. Review the Oversight Manual and ensure it captures key processes of the Oversight function (e.g. Executive Board annual reporting cycle and the JIU process)
  2. Assist and propose a solution to capture systemic issues from internal audit reports (text)
  3. Assist and document ad hoc research on technical topics (fraud, anti-money laundering, risks, compliance) to support the development of policies and advisory notes.

Key support 3: General Support

  1. Provide general support to the oversight audits (UNBOA, JIU), when required, including coordination of meetings and logistics.
  2. Provide editorial support for Executive Board documents and briefing notes.
  3. Other activities under the Office of the Comptroller as required.

Education,

  • Enrolled in an accredited university graduate programme (or graduated within the last 12 months) in Business Administration, Accounting, Management, Information Technology, Internal Controls, Risk Management, Data Science, or any relevant field.
  • Excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.

Your skills,

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English. Spanish or French is an asset
  • Tech savvy with proficient computer skills, including Word, Excel, Power BI and Sharepoint.
  • Experience with PowerBI as a visualization tool is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Compliance, Internal Controls topics to ensure valuable research desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and reporting capabilities.
  • A high level of individual responsibility, commitment and initiative.
  • Responds flexibly to changes and develop alternate plans to achieve objectives.
  • Motivated by learning, taking challenges and improving processes
  • Team player and easy communication to keep people informed on challenges or delays.

Administrative guidance:

  • The Intern will be provided with a laptop.
  • UNICEF will provide access to a temporary desk, internet and printer at the UNICEF offices.
  • Candidates are required to have authorization to work in the USA.
  • Health/Medical Insurance costs will be borne by the intern. Proof of health insurance coverage during the internship period will be requested.
  • Completion of the relevant UNICEF forms before taking up service as an intern is a condition.
  • There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship. The Intern will receive monthly stipend in accordance with UNICEF guidelines.
