Overview

Support organizational culture and transformation initiatives as an intern.

You have:

  • University degree in business administration, organizational psychology, economics, public administration, public policy, social sciences or related disciplines; advanced degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience supporting project management, organizational transformation, cultural transformation, change management and/or advisory initiatives in public or private organizations.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to comprehend technical content (such as nuclear security).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
  • Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.

Internships

The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details).

The purpose of the programme is:

  • To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;
  • To benefit the IAEA's programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.

The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.

Organizational Setting

The Department of Safeguards carries out the IAEA's duties and responsibilities as the world's nuclear inspectorate, supporting global efforts to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. The primary role of the Department is to develop and implement IAEA safeguards to ensure that there is no diversion of declared nuclear material from peaceful activities and no indications of undeclared nuclear material or activities in a State as a whole.

The Department comprises nuclear safeguards inspectors, responsible for carrying out inspections and verifications of all-safeguards relevant information for nuclear facilities in over 180 States; and technical staff responsible for a wide range of activities including: developing concepts and approaches for implementing safeguards; developing and maintaining safeguards equipment; providing analytical and laboratory services for sample analysis; collecting, evaluating and analysing safeguards-relevant information; providing information and communication technology infrastructure and services; and providing programme coordination support.

Operations Divisions, and the Office for Verification in Iran, perform and document safeguards verification activities and conduct analysis and evaluations aimed at providing assurances that States comply with their nuclear safeguards commitments. These teams implement a broad range of measures, including information analysis and in-field verification, to draw soundly based safeguards conclusions for States.

Main Purpose

Are you interested in organizational culture, change management, and project coordination, and eager to gain hands-on experience in a complex international organization? The Department is seeking an Organizational Culture & Transformation Intern to support its strategic initiative 'SGTeam' on strengthening organizational culture and enhancing organizational effectiveness. As an intern, you would support experienced professionals and and gain hands-on experience in organizational culture, transformation and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of organizational culture and transformation initiatives under the SG Team programme.
  • Support project planning and follow-up activities, including timelines, meetings, coordination across workstreams and stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to change management activities such as stakeholder analysis, communication planning, change readiness and adoption support.
  • Help prepare presentations, briefing notes, reports and other materials related to culture and transformation initiatives.
  • Support initiatives aimed at strengthening collaboration, communication and organizational effectiveness.
  • Conduct research on organizational culture, transformation and change management approaches and tools.
  • Coordinate with teams and stakeholders across the Department and support the successful delivery of transformation-related activities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in business administration, organizational psychology, economics, public administration, public policy, social sciences or related disciplines; advanced degree preferred but not required;
  • Experience supporting project management, organizational transformation, cultural transformation, change management and/or advisory initiatives in public or private organizations;
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to comprehend technical content (such as nuclear security).
  • Experience with social media (asset).
  • Experience in conferences/events promotion (asset).
  • Experience in management consulting, transformation programmes, organizational development, HR transformation and/or people and culture initiatives is considered an asset;
  • Familiarity with project management and change management methodologies and tools is desirable;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.
  • Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.
  • Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
  • Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
