UNDP Environment portfolio manages different projects in Nature, Climate and livelihoods in partnership with the government ministries and agencies. The portfolio is composed of the team of project analysts, project managers and technical specialist supervised by a Portfolio Manager who reports to the country office management. Projects are implemented through either Direct Implementation or National Implementation Mode. These projects contribute to the national development guided by the 13th FYP of the Royal Government of Bhutan, the UNDP Country Program Document (CPD) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Country Framework ( 2024-28) integrating into the over all sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs).

The planning, implementation, monitoring, result reporting of the series of the projects in the portfolio generate extensive data and information, requires multiple discussions, meetings, field missions and coordination of multiple activities. These projects provide learning opportunities in project management, progress reporting, communications, coordination, mentoring, team work.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the portfolio manager and program analysts with the Environment and livelihoods team, the Intern will provide assistance and supports to the portfolio manager and the program analysts to deliver tasks such as, communications, data compilation, analysis , administrative and coordination works.

The intern will assist in the following duties and responsibilities:

Support workshops/ meetings and missions

  • Logistics support on meeting and workshop preparations
  • Coordination with team and stakeholders
  • Participate in meeting and maintain record of discussion

Research on the topics related to Environment, Disaster and Climate change

  • Prepare briefs and talking points, gather information related to specific topics in environment, livelihood enhancement and climate change
  • Carry out information compilation, document good lessons in project management, prepare draft high impact story materials
  • Assist in developing communication strategies for projects with the environment and livelihoods
  • Assist program analysts in desk research in climate change, environment and livelihood themes

Support data collection on projects

  • Assist in organization of project related field activities, meetings, workshops including record of discussions and assist preparation of activity plans and progress reports
  • Support in e-filing and documentation
  • Engage in time sensitive ad-hoc assignments

  • Ability to support a team and team building skills
  • Responds positively to feedback and differing points of view
  • Knowledge and proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools;
  • Knowledge and proficient user of Video Conferencing tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams

    Required Skills and Experience

    Education:

  • Candidates must at the time of application meet ONE of the following requirements:

  1. Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  3. Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (1) and (2) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
  • Applicants with experience in environment, communications, sustainable development and livelihood enhancement is an asset

    Language:

  • Excellent writing and speaking skills in English

  • Good level of knowledge in Dzongkha
