Internship: Innovation Research

Modality: Paid (if selected candidate is eligible) – Full time

Tentative start date: As soon as possible

Location: Copenhagen/home-based

Duration: 26 weeks

At UNICEF Supply Division (SD) in Copenhagen, the Product Innovation Centre, is recruiting for a Research Intern. The Centre works with colleagues across the different procurement centres, UNICEF country offices, other UNICEF divisions and UN agencies to drive R&D and accelerate scale-up of products which are currently not available on the market but fulfil a priority need in the unique context in which UNICEF and its partners operate. Each project requires a vast amount of research and analysis of the current and future market, hence the requirement for this internship.

How can you make a difference?

Starting as soon as possible, the Product Innovation Centre, Copenhagen seeks an intern for a 26-week period, the main purpose of the internship is to support the development of SD’s innovation projects by:

    1. Undertaking research, desk reviews and data analysis in relation to innovation projects
    2. Becoming a significant actor in assisting project activities to ensure project progress

Main Duties/ Responsibilities

The incumbent may be accountable for all or assigned areas of the following duties:

  1. Conduct market surveys, research, demand forecasts and analyses of different product and commodity areas as required
  2. Mapping of innovative, pre-commercial/incomplete designs to better understand the future landscape for required commodity areas
  3. Support in creation of documentation to support innovation projects
  4. Offering support to project leads for the development of innovation projects

  • Understanding of innovation operations within the UN structure
  • Project management skills (both ‘by doing’ and through Agora trainings)
  • Public procurement principles (Procurement at UNICEF)

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education:

Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in an undergraduate, or graduate school, or be a recent graduate (graduated within past 2 years). Suitable disciplines for this internship include global health, innovation management, engineering, product design, nutrition, market research and analysis, economics. Applicants from other disciplines may be accepted.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of standard MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in market survey and analysis desirable
  • Experience in project management desirables
  • Experience in creating dashboards with Power BI is highly desirable
  • Excel skills and experience in demand forecasting desirable
  • Active and up to date knowledge of modern, innovative materials and technologies desirable

Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is essential and in another UN language is an advantage.

Additional information:

Age: Interns must be at least 18 years

Visa: Should it be relevant at some point during the internship to travel to the duty station, UNICEF is not responsible for obtaining any visas for internships. However, UNICEF can provide a Note Verbale to respective Consulates, to support the application of Visas. Also, in the scenario that the intern is already in the country of the duty station and have been granted a different work permit modality, any extension cannot be dependent on an internship with UNICEF.

Insurance: The selected candidate must provide proof of health/accident insurance plan that covers them in the country of the assignment and for the entire duration of the assignment.

Interns are covered for any service-incurred injury/illness.

Employment: There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Onboarding: The intern will be required to provide confirmation of strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records or, if not available, a reference letter from an academic supervisor, a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on conditions before taking up service as an intern.
