BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger. WFP's mission is to help the world reach Zero Hunger. Every day, WFP works to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, especially women and children, can access the nutritious food they need. The intern will work in the Regional Bureau of World Food Programme located in Panama. Internships with WFP provide an opportunity for the students to gain experience of the United Nations and more particularly of the World Food Programme. It also provides an opportunity for students to gain valuable experience working in an international professional environment and provides exposure to a truly global humanitarian organisation.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Working in the Technology Division, under the direct supervision of the Regional Business Transformation Officer for innovation, he/she will support the following functions:

1. Assisting in researching and analysing innovative business ideas and trends to identify potential opportunities for the unit's projects.

2. Supporting the development and execution of innovation projects, including conducting market research, preparing project documentation, and tracking project milestones.

3. Collaborating with the team to organize and participate in innovation workshops, brainstorming sessions, and stakeholder meetings.

4. Helping prepare business proposals, presentations, and marketing materials for various projects.

5. Assist with data analysis and generating reports to evaluate project performance and identify areas for improvement.

6. Contributing to creating and maintaining databases and communication channels for projectrelated information and updates.

7. Supporting the team in organising events, webinars, and conferences related to innovation and business support.

8. Assisting with administrative tasks, such as managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and preparing meeting minutes.

9. Perform other tasks as needed.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT

As the Innovation and Business Engagement Intern, you will be under the overall supervision of the Head of the Technology Unit. You will be expected to learn from the ongoing Innovation projects and activities carried out by the TEC areas in the Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean (RBP), and apply the knowledge supporting the referred unit with general tasks.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education: You must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme from a recognized university in one of the following areas: Innovation, Business Administration, Computer Science or Engineering, and other Information Systems or Technology related areas.

Experience: The intern must have attended courses in the last 12 months and have completed at least two years undergraduate studies. Recently graduates (6 months after graduation). Previous work experience or internships will be a plus.

Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish (oral and written communication)

  • Professionalism: Ability to undertake coordination of specific activities, interpret/analyse a wide variety of data, and identify/resolve data/information discrepancies.
  • Planning and Organizing: Ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Commitment to continuous learning: Initiative and willingness to keep abreast of new trends in international development and public information fields.
  • Technological Awareness: Proficiency in various MS Office and in the Adobe package: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premiere.
  • Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multi-cultural, multiethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Communication: Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally.

The Intern will receive a monthly stipend from WFP which is the equivalent of 14% of the daily subsistence allowance prevailing in Panama City for each day worked, but no to exceed US$ 966 per month.

The internship is normally on a full-time basis in accordance with the working schedule of the WFP office.
