Overview

You have:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent), preferably in the area of law, political science, international relations, social sciences or business administration management.
  • Knowledge or experience working with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Other United Nations languages are desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern shall support OHCHR in fulfilling its mission: to work for the protection of all human rights for all people; to help empower people to realize their rights; and to assist those responsible for upholding such rights in ensuring that they are implemented. Daily responsibilities of the Business and Human Rights Section intern(s) will depend on activities within the assigned work unit and the individual's qualifications and competencies. Duties may include but are not limited to: • Researching and analyzing subjects on a wide range of thematic and regional issues worked on at the Section. Draft and summarize reports, background materials, and other relevant documents as necessary. • Preparing for and servicing meetings, seminars, and workshops (e.g., preparation of documentation, drafting of notes and reports). • Performing other related duties requested by the supervisor, including supporting other OHCHR units, as necessary.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for the UN Internship Programme, applicant must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements; (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent), preferably in the area of law, political science, international relations, social sciences or business administration management. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme, however work experience in any of the given fields is desirable. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Knowledge or experience working with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Spanish is highly desirable. Other United Nations languages are desirable.
