JOB PURPOSE

Project Description

The External Relations and Innovations Unit ensures that WFP’s corporate messaging, tone and visual representation of branded products are consistent. Reporting to the Graphics Designer, the Intern will support the team in conceptualizing, designing, updating and creating web, print and social media visual assets for campaigns, events and other promotional purposes.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Duties and Responsibilities

The interested candidate will:

  • Contribute creative ideas for publications and visibility materials to reach and engage different WFP audiences;
  • Provide overall graphic design and video editing support to the Communications team.
  • Provide social media moderation support to the Communications team.
  • Support the External relations unit for processes, checklists, updates, briefs and reports and other materials for printing and digital distribution.
  • Improve or update and edit artwork/layouts, photos, charts and other graphic elements for corporate and promotional products;
  • Prepare final digital files for press, print, web and social media.
  • Archive, log and update digital media assets, e.g. interview audios, photos, videos and printed materials on the repository shared drives and stores.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

  • Currently in the final year of Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Journalism, Communication; or Currently enrolled in a master’s degree in any of the above spheres or related areas; or Graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a Bachelor’s/master’s degree or equivalent studies.
  • Must be available for 9 months without interruption
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
  • Knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proven experience of graphic production from concept and design to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and color management;

Language:

Fluent in English

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms;
  • Advanced knowledge of standard software packages, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud etc.
  • Ability to edit documents and/or summarize content for various audience
  • Working experience in development or humanitarian environment is desirable

  • Proficient in main graphic design, video and photo editing software (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere and Photoshop);
  • Ability to convert complex and abstract ideas into simple visual concepts;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task;
  • Must be able to work in a multicultural environment and be aware of political sensitivities;
  • Familiarity with main social media platforms;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and adhoc deadlines.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Upon selection, proof of enrolment in a course of study will be required and your expected date of graduation. If you have graduated, a certified copy of your degree will be required.
  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP.
