Purpose

The intern will support the global education partnerships workstream, including quality assurance and capacity building activities related to the large grants portfolio with the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). The intern will also support engagement with political forums (e.g., G20, G7), global coordination mechanisms (e.g., GCM) and the Transforming Education Summit (Sept 2022).

The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Education Specialist – Global Partnerships, in collaboration with the rest of the members of the team, at New York HQ. The intern’s work will be invaluable to the delivery of quality results and strengthening/enhancement of global partnerships and increasing capacity of field teams.

Main duties and Tasks:

The intern is expected to provide operational and technical assistance with regards to:

  • Support quality assurance and capacity building activities related to GPE grants, including monitoring of progress/spending, and facilitation of discussions between GPE and HQ, regional and country offices.
  • Lead set up of an internal communication site related to GPE, including FAQ, to facilitate timely sharing of information and lessons learned, between HQ, ROs, and COs Work with various teams to support UNICEF’s effective engagement with key political forums/platforms (e.g., G7 and G20, Global Coordination Mechanism, Education Outcome Fund, etc).

Support overall coordination and documentation related to the global partnerships’ portfolio.

Location:

The internship will be Remotely conducted, (with potential travel to NYQ for meetings, depending on budget availability.

Duration

May 9th to November 8th, 2022

Salary/Payment:

Part-time (30 hrs. / week)

Insurance:

UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start the internship with the Education Section.

Living Conditions and Working Environment:

The intern will be remote based and work from home. The intern will work with the Education Section and report to the supervisor of this internship. The intern is not expected to travel during the assignment. The intern will be expected to participate in education section meetings, as well as other UNICEF meetings of interest to the student, including the seminar series for UNICEF interns. Guidance will be provided on a regular basis.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate programme in International Education/Education, International Development, or related field
  • Familiarity with the education and/or international education
  • Strong writing/communication and research skills
  • Strong programme and partnerships coordination skills
  • Excellent English proficiency
  • Knowledge/proficiency in other languages an asset
