Org. Setting and Reporting Under the overall direction of the Office of the Secretary General (OSG), the Strategic Planning, Coordination and Partnerships (SPCP) Office coordinates high-level and cross-cutting strategies and priorities among the different Bureaux and Offices, including the Regional Offices, of the Organization. In particular, the SPCP Office is responsible for the development and maintenance of the ICAO Business Plan, the ICAO Triennial Operating Plan, the Corporate Performance Management Framework, the Corporate Key Performance Indicators and the Risk Registry, which form the basis for resource allocation and assist the Secretary General to monitor its accountability and performance with respect to the implementation of initiatives. The SPCP Office has also the responsibility to facilitate the development of, monitoring and reporting on cross-organizational partnerships as well as to leverage such strategic partnerships in air transport systems’ enhancements for Member States. Furthermore, SPCP coordinates the implementation of the ICAO Gender Equality Programme, in consultation with ADB and other Bureaus/Offices at HQ and Regional Offices. It liaises with UN Women and other UN entities on the United Nations System Wide Action Plan (UN-SWAP) on Gender Equality, including on ICAO’s contributions towards the UNSWAP. On innovation in aviation, the SPCP Office also coordinates and supports knowledge sharing across the organization on this matter and identifies opportunities to advance innovative approaches in aviation.

The primary focus of this internship is on organization of the Second Global Aviation Gender Summit and outreach in relation to advancing gender equality in aviation.

Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Partnership Specialist, the intern will:

  • Support SPCP in the overall preparation of the Second Global Aviation Gender Summit and all related side activities;
  • Support the coordination and preparation of background and reference documentation for the Summit;
  • Help with maintaining the Second Global Aviation Gender Summit website and other social media/publicity tools to ensure that the information is up to date, which may include building new tools/pages.
  • Draft reports and minutes of coordination meetings;
  • Assist in the preparation of correspondences, speeches and talking points, and support the preparation of presentations and other material;
  • Conduct research on latest data and information in relation to gender in aviation;
  • Support the development of outreach materials on ICAO's work on aviation and gender equality;
  • Support revamping of the public website of ICAO related to gender equality and women empowerment;
  • Support with the activities related to the Gender Equality Community of ICAO; and
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Education At the time of application, candidates are required to have completed or be enrolled in a graduate degree programme (second-level university degree or higher) preferably in a field of study related to political science, law, public administration, management, or a related field in the aviation sector.

Applicants pursuing studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages should have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office including word, excel and power point is desirable.

Practical experience in using collaborative documentation processing tools or work management platforms is desirable.

Knowledge of ICAO and its mandate, the aviation sector or the United Nations system is desirable.

Languages Essential requirements:

Fluent reading, writing and speaking abilities in English.

Desirable requirements:

A working knowledge of a second language of the Organization (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice Interns are not paid. All costs related to this internship must be borne by the intern.

The duration of internship is six months.

Interns shall not be eligible to be engaged in any other form of employment within ICAO during the period of internship and shall not be eligible to apply for or be appointed to any post in the Secretariat or be contracted for any other remunerated employment with ICAO for the six months immediately following the end of their internship.

United Nations Considerations In accordance with ICAO Staff Regulations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
