The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill an intern position in the Gender Equality Office, homebased.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION:

For WFP, gender equality and women’s empowerment are central to ending global hunger and saving lives. For a world of zero hunger we need transformative changes; changes that redistribute power between women and men, girls and boys. With equality and empowerment, food security and nutrition for all persons, without distinctions, become possible. To assist everybody in integrating gender into their daily business, the Gender Equality Office (GEN) implements initiatives and provides services to individuals, offices and units across the Organization.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Title of Post: Internship

Supervisor: Programme Policy Officer

Unit: Gender Equality Office, GEN

Country: Rome, Italy

Duty Station: remote arrangement

Duration of internship: initial 3 months with possible extension to max 8 months

Expected Start Date: ASAP

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support in the classification and management of existing knowledge platforms and tools within the Gender Equality Office (example: Gender Equality Toolkit, Knowledge Management Platform, etc.);
  • Assist with the preparation of visual products for presentations (PPT, infographics, etc.);
  • Support in drafting and editing guidance notes, talking points, briefing papers, etc., under the supervision of the Pillar leaders;
  • Other duties which may arise during the course of the internship.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme in Development Studies, International Relations, Politics, Gender or any other relevant Social Sciences discipline, from a recognize university or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university.
  • University course attendance in the past 12 months.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Basic knowledge of the humanitarian and development landscape. Knowledge of how gender intersects with humanitarian and development issues is an asset;
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) required;
  • Experience in using Microsoft SharePoint required;
  • Data visualization skills and experience using software such as Tableau, Power BI is an advantage.

WORKING LANGUAGES

  • Excellent written and spoken English is required (Level C minimum);
  • Proficiency and/or fluency in French and Arabic is desirable.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer, GEN.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

  • Be able to understand basic gender related concepts;
  • Navigate in the organizational main policies and frameworks;
  • Provide qualified support to technical staff on specific thematic areas around gender.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
