The overall strategic goal of ICTD (Information and Communication Technology Division) is to transform and build partnerships with our stakeholders to successfully implement UNICEF programmes globally using innovative, technology-enabled digital solutions for better outcomes for children.

The Field Solutions team as part of ICTD is a creative, interactive, and agile team that works to provide enterprise solutions used by staff and partners in all countries UNICEF works in.

How can you make a difference?

The primary objective of this internship opportunity is to provide a hands-on learning experience to an aspiring frontend developer, while simultaneously supporting the digital initiatives of UNICEF. The intern will contribute to the development and maintenance of our confidential web application ensuring an optimal user experience and seamless functionality. The solution is being used in all countries to track any security related incidents and events that include UNICEF staff. The application needs an upgrade of the frontend code from Polymer 1 to latest React using custom UNICEF components already built.

Responsibilities

During the internship, the selected intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Collaborate with the development team to understand project requirements and objectives.
  • Design, develop, and implement frontend components and features using React.js.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code following best practices and coding standards.
  • Conduct thorough testing and debugging to ensure application stability and performance.
  • Collaborate with backend developers to integrate frontend components with server-side logic.
  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Assist in the documentation and version control of codebase changes.
  • Stay up to date with emerging frontend technologies, trends, and best practices.

Duration

This will be a full-time internship, the duration of the internship will be for minimum 2 months, maximum 3 months. Expected starting date is as soon as possible.

Salary/Payment:

In accordance with UNICEF's guidelines, interns will be paid a stipend of up to EUR 1350 per month, depending on the intern's location. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship. UNICEF is not responsible for obtaining any necessary visas.

Insurance:

UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work with ICTD.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will…

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in a Computer Science or any technology related field
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old
  • Have good academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g., father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office.
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.
  • Additional consideration will be given for any related experience.
  • Have excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in English. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
