Ending Corporal Punishment – Internship (part-time)

6 months (August 2021 – February 2022)

CORPORAL PUNISHMENT

In September 2020, the Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children (GI), an active member of the End Violence CSO Forum, ceased its activities as a civil society organization. The End Violence Partnership was selected to continue important work begun by the Global Initiative. The work mainly consists of encouraging every country to prohibit and eliminate corporal punishment of children, and to take steps to put the law into practice. It also includes conducting and supporting national, regional and international advocacy with accurate information and tailored technical resources, guidance and assistance. End Violence thus adopted key elements of GI’s work and incorporated the organization’s website, allowing for the continuation of essential advocacy work to ensure all children are protected from violent discipline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Ending Corporal Punishment Intern will play an essential role in supporting the team with legal and human rights monitoring and research, ultimately contributing to a decrease in violence against children across the world. Support will focus on three key areas: 1) assisting with the update of legal information on the website, 2) reviewing human rights treaty bodies’ decisions and updating country reports accordingly, and 3) the development of a clear timetable for international and regional reporting mechanisms.

Summary of key functions:

Work closely with the Legal Policy Specialist to review and analyze international and regional human rights mechanisms’ recommendations pertaining to corporal punishment of children and update country reports accordingly

    MANAGEMENT, LOCATION, TRAVEL AND DURATION

The Ending Corporal Punishment intern will be hosted by the Secretariat of the End Violence Partnership for six months. The intern will be expected to support the team for not less than 6 hours a week. S/he will be an essential member of the End Violence team, a small, passionate group of professionals from across the world. The intern will report to the Legal Policy Specialist (Corporal Punishment).

Therefore, the location of the intern is flexible. However, US Eastern Daylight Time is lightly preferred to match with the work schedules of the team, but not mandatory for the right candidate.
