Overview

You have:

  • Excellent written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language an asset.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of technologies in the IT Security domain.
  • Proven ability to learn new skills rapidly.
  • Ability to visualise, share and present information.
  • Knowledge in any of the following areas is beneficial: Cyber Security, Security Operations Center, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Copilot, etc.
  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.
  • Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.
  • Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.

Internships

The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details).

The purpose of the programme is:

  • To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;
  • To benefit the IAEA's programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.

The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.

Organizational Setting

The Division of Information Technology provides support to the IAEA in the field of information and communication technology (ICT), including information systems for technical programmes and management. It is responsible for planning, developing and implementing an ICT strategy, for setting and enforcing common ICT standards throughout the Secretariat and for managing central ICT services. The IAEA's ICT infrastructure comprises hardware and software platforms, and cloud and externally hosted services. The Division has implemented an IT service management model based on ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) and Prince2 (Projects in a Controlled Environment) best practices.

The Client Services Section (CSS) is responsible for setting standards, providing first and second level support of the IAEA's desktop computing environment, delivery of the IAEA's IT training programme and promoting client-oriented services. It designs, manages and implements desktop services, including their architecture, processes and policies to meet current and future business requirements. It aims at achieving the delivery of agreed levels of services to clients in compliance with best practices defined by international standards, in particular ITIL.

Main Purpose

The main purpose of the internship is to support the Service Design Unit in delivering security‑focused end products by leveraging readily available technology and rapidly exploring new ideas across the IAEA.

Functions / Key Results Expected

The Client Service Section Intern will report to the Service Design Lead of the Service Design Unit within the Client Service Section (CSS), Division of Information Technology (MTIT). The ideal incumbent is a motivated individual, passionate about the role technology can play in innovation, a quick learner and hands-on.

Under the guidance of the Service Design Lead, the intern will be required to:

  • Research currently and not-currently-in-use ICT security technologies, applications, frameworks and platforms at the IAEA, in order to broaden the knowledge base and facilitate better technology decision making in BSS, MTIT and the Organization as a whole;
  • Assist in the building of rapid prototypes and Proof of Concepts (PoC) to determine security, fit and usability;
  • Participate in communication to business through workshops, consulting, drop-in sessions and other activities as required;
  • Contribute to establishing an Innovation Programme by providing relevant security inputs
  • Contribute to fostering innovation across the IAEA by suggesting ideas and drafting changes to existing processes and policies;
  • Support ongoing projects and activities.
