The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill an intern position in Digital Innovation Team of the Nutrition Division, based in Rome, Italy.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIGITAL INNOVATION TEAM IN NUTRITION:

As one of the United Nations main agencies fighting malnutrition, the World Food Programme (WFP) is adapting to meet the current and emerging global nutrition challenges. This includes enhancing organizational capacity and innovating to improve programme quality, with a view to sustainably reducing all forms of malnutrition. Digitization has the potential to improve field operations and increase the impact of WFP and partners’ efforts at improving the nutritional status of the people we serve.

The Digital Innovation team in Nutrition is currently made up of a Team Leader and a Business Analyst.

GENERAL INFORMATION

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Digital Innovation Team Leader, the candidate will perform the following duties:

  1. Support with the coordination of the DI Road-mapping process by organizing meetings, preparing notes-for-the-record, managing the logistics around workshop organization etc.
  2. Support with the preparation of reports, funding proposals and learning materials.
  3. Support the Business Analysis function ensuring programmatic requirements are well integrated into digital solutions and note taking in discussions with Country teams/Programmatic Stakeholders.
  4. Support the Product Manager function monitoring change management/ticketing systems. In particular the dynamisation and management of user communities is important (including preparing, coordinating and documenting user meetings)
  5. Standing in for teammates in the case of absence/travel.
  6. Support the elaboration of training materials for Digital products, for Programmatic stakeholders.
  7. Collate content and create brochures, talking points, presentations, infographics, and other products to support in advocating for digital innovations.
  8. Support the edition of communications to Country Offices and Regional Bureaux about Digital Innovations.
  9. Support in gathering evidence (including summarizing quantitative and qualitative data) in order to measure the impact of digital innovations and to improve the effectiveness and efficacy of nutrition interventions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently enrolled with at least two years undergraduate studies completed, or recently graduated (within 6 months from the Vacancy Announcement closure; Preferable area of study is Nutrition, Health, Health Information systems, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Communications, International Relations/Development
  • University course attendance in the past 12 months
  • Excellent command of English; Working knowledge of French would be an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

REQUIRED SOFT SKILLS/WFP COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent Analytical skills, experience in using analysis tools (Tableau, BI etc.) very helpful
  • General comfort with web platforms/apps
  • Ability to think creatively and present complex info in a simple manner.
  • Sincerely passionate about information, communication, technology and making a difference

WORKING LANGUAGES

Working knowledge of English (proficiency/level C) is required.

SUPERVISION

Under the direct supervision of the team leader for Digital Innovation, the intern will be provided with close mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be elemental part of the supervision. The Chief of Knowledge Management and Digital Innovation will be the second-level supervisor. With the support of a comprehensive induction package and assignment of a buddy/mentor, the intern will rapidly become a productive member of the team.

TRAINING COMPONENTS

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

  • Have a broad understanding of different programming configurations for Nutrition related programming,
  • Understand some examples of how technology can support this programming,
  • Understand how technology products can be accommodated within an international organisation

The intern will be provided with a computer, but must provide their own connectivity (adequate for TEAMS meetings).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
