Background

UNDP has engaged with the State Government of Uttarakhand to provide technical support in implementation of Uttarakhand State Rural Livelihoods Mission in the state of Uttarakhand. Under this collaboration UNDP in Uttarakhand will also be supporting the different Govt. departments in mobilization of high-quality human resource, implementation of capacity building trainings, monitoring and evaluation, knowledge Management and SHG product Marketing under the mission.

In order to ensure seamless coordination with the Project Management Unit at SRLM and with State Office of UNDP a project coordinator has been appointed. To support Project Coordinator and the State Office in Dehradun, at the state level, UNDP is planning to hire an intern, to work directly under the supervision of Project Coordinator and Head of State Office and will cover a broad range of project Monitoring, coordination and operational issues to support under the Uttarakhand State Rural Livelihoods Mission.

She/he works in close collaboration with the state government reporting to the State Head providing coordination support to UNDP’s efforts on programme formulation, assist in development of proposal.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will work under the overall guidance of the Head of State Office to carry out the following tasks:

  • Support in desk review of government schemes and programmes
  • Provide coordination support under USRLM project for implementation of project activities
  • Assist organization of meetings for liaising with state government functionaries, public and private sector entities;
  • Support in systematic implementation of Marketing interventions under the project for SHG women;
  • Support in development of Knowledge Management products;
  • Drafting and consolidating documents (articles, factsheets, reports, concept notes, presentations and Proposals);
  • To provide support in SDG implementation, training and capacity building;
  • Conduct preliminary data analyses as per organisation’s requirements;
  • Prepare presentations as per organization requirement;
  • Apart from the above, the Intern will also be required to execute other duties and assignments as entrusted by the State Head

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in Economics, Commerce, Science, Management, or related field.
  • A master’s degree in the related field will be advantage.
  • Experience in administration and coordination aspects.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.). Experience in handling of web-based management systems.

Skills:

  • Strong Oral and Communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, assessment and project planning skills.
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of information technology and applies it in work assignments.
  • Ability to manage data, documents, correspondence and reports information and workflow.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English and working language of the duty station.

Selection of Intern:

Selection to be done based on the UNDP Internship Application Form and Interview round.

Candidates who are selected must submit the following documents, upon selection: :

Official letter from the University confirming enrollment in their undergraduate or graduate-level degree programme;

Proof of medical and life/accident insurance valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out. Selected intern must have medical and life insurance.

Working arrangements:

Interns may be given a stipend according to UNDP Internship Policy, if it is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government foundation or scholarship programme. A stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station. The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.

Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship. UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship. Interns must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan.

Interns are expected to work full time, but flexibility is allowed for education programmes.

The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.

Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship.

Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.

The purpose of the internship is not to lead to further employment with UNDP, but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship. The intern will be evaluated at the end of the internship.

IMPORTANT: Family relationships are required to be disclosed in order to avoid real or perceived family influence or conflict of interest, within UNDP. If the candidate/ hiring manager has not disclosed that he/she was related to an individual employed by UNDP in whatever contractual modality and irrespective of the nature of the family relationship, this may constitute a basis for withdrawing the offer of internship or, if the internship has started, to terminate it without notice or indemnity.
