KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

As a member of the Regional Bureau Communication team, the intern will specifically: • Monitor media. • Compile a Middle East daily news digest • Contribute to and support multiple communication initiatives when required. • Create a data base for the RBC photos library • Support in the internal communications activities (archive all the RBC newsletters, create templates for digital screens, update digital screens when needed)

Learning Elements

  • Knowledge of WFP’s humanitarian work, operations and activities in the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
  • Exposure to the work of individual functional areas involved in a WFP operation (e.g. Programme & Policy, Supply Chain, Monitoring & Evaluation, Vulnerability Assessment and Mapping, etc.) at country office and regional bureau level and the ability to learn from exchanges with these units.
  • Exposure of additional WFP work areas through online learnings and personal exchange.

Training components

Throughout their assignment, WFP interns have access to an industry-leading learning platform, WeLearn.

Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Currently enrolled in graduate level courses or recent graduates (within 6 months of graduation) from a bachelor’s or master’s programme. Preferred field of study: Communications, Media, or other relevant fields and studies.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

The incumbent should have the following skills and experience: • Advanced English language skills both written and oral; • Experience utilizing computer programs, including word processing, and spreadsheets • Interest in media, current news and regional politics. • Accurate, creative open-minded team player with strong initiative and willingness to learn.

LANGUAGE:

Fluency (both oral and written) in English (proficient/level C). Knowledge (intermediate/level B) of a second official UN language; Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish, is an asset.

GENERAL INFORMATION

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • Depending on the duty station of assignment, WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education;
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
