We are currently seeking to fill three intern positions with Donor Relations and Communications Unit to be based in Xai-Xai, Tete and Nampula Provinces in Mozambique.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled and have attended University courses in the last 12 months inclusive of having completed at least two years of graduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 6 months in Communications, journalism, international relations, media, marketing and branding or other related fields and studies.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Fluent in Portuguese and English.

JOB PURPOSE

World Food Programme’s Field Offices are responsible for implementing humanitarian and development activities on the ground and enhancing public awareness and understanding of WFP’s work. In this context, WFP aims to improve brand recognition through a variety of communication avenues to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. The scope of the internship will spread over a spectrum of tasks which include collecting and creating content, promoting media engagement, developing stories, drafting communications pieces and reports, and editing external documents in both English and Portuguese. The Communications and Reporting Intern will report to the Head of the Field Office and will be under the co-supervision and guidance of the External Relations Unit.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Document the ongoing activities of the Field Offices by collecting beneficiaries’ stories, photos and videos and liaising with External Relations Unit to coordinate the production and dissemination.
  • Monitor local media, identify trends and potential risks, keeping track of local news, events, and other communication opportunities.
  • Support internal communications activities and knowledge management efforts.
  • Assist in the preparation of Field Office reporting products for the Country Office.
  • Support in the preparation of internal and external communications materials, including presentations, social media, stories, photos, videos, brochures, leaflets, etc.
  • Support the organization of local events and meetings.
  • Support the organization and planning of media, donor and high-level field visits.
  • Monitor WFP visibility on project sites and produce visibility items (plaques, banners, etc.) in coordination with the External Relations Unit.
  • Provide relevant research, translation, and other ad-hoc tasks as required.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Ability to present a portfolio of non-edited samples of own work prepared for the university (for example: papers, texts, photos, videos, reports).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP of US$ 575 per month.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education;
