JOB PURPOSE

Project Description

The External Relations and Innovations Unit of WFP Kenya aims to enhance public awareness and understanding of WFP’s work in the country to both local and international audiences. To further its goals, the Unit seeks to enlist a full-time intern to support with the communications function.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce content for online and social media, including Insight, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Create visual assets for social media accounts
  • Support social media outreach and implementation during International Days
  • Monitor social media accounts for engagements
  • Scan local newspapers daily for coverage of relevance to WFP
  • Track local and international news on issues of relevance
  • Assist with media events including photography, videography and logistics
  • Liaise with other UN communication officers for joint activities
  • Respond to information requests from various sources
  • Assist with the dissemination of publications
  • Travel in-country as needed
  • Other tasks as assigned by the External Relations unit

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

  • Currently in the final year of Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Digital Communications/Social Media, or Mass Communication.; or Currently enrolled in a master’s degree in any of the above spheres or related areas; or Graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a Bachelor’s/master’s degree or equivalent studies.
  • Must be available for 9 months without interruption
  • Work experience in journalism or public affairs will be an advantage.
  • Experience in writing, editing and proofreading will be an advantage
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);

Language

Fluency in both oral and written English and Kiswahili

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of social media trends.
  • Proven writing and editing skills (report, creative writing, media) in English.
  • Photography and videography skills including post-production using professional tools such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Windows computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
  • Knowledge of social and political situation in Kenya
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks.
  • Good interpersonal skills, team spirit and attentive to details.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and adhoc deadlines.

  • Upon selection, proof of enrolment in a course of study will be required and your expected date of graduation. If you have graduated, a certified copy of your degree will be required.
  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP.
