For every child, how can you make a difference ?

The specific tasks include;

• Support the documentation of the backlog clearance project of the Attorney General’s Department Child Protection Unit
• Support the development of an action plan for the National Child Protection Policy
• Participating in meetings with partners and preparation of notes of meetings
• Research on specific subjects related to the above subject areas
• Taking courses as per guidance provided by the Child Protection Team in Agora related to care and protection of children
• Preparation of briefs, presentations, draft proposals and budgets
• Compilation of reports related to projects with partners
• Any other reasonable task assigned by the supervisor.

Learning opportunities for the intern:

• General understanding of the mission of UNICEF, the main programmes implemented in Sri Lanka on child protection and the role of stakeholders and partners at national and sub-national level;
• Insight and hands-on experience in UNICEF’s role in promoting children’s rights;
• Insight and hands-on experience in organizing and running complex projects;

• Becoming familiar with working in a United Nation’s agency and in a multicultural environment

  Expected outputs:

• Work plan to be submitted on the first working day of every month during the internship period.

• Monthly report on the implementation of the Workplan to be submitted on the last UNICEF working day of each month during the internship period, accompanied by deliverables produced during the month.
• End of assignment report.

Duration: 3 months

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

• Education: Recent LLB graduate, Attorney at Law; law student reading for LLB or Attorneys; Post Advanced Level Students awaiting entry to University or Law School; other relevant degree with a demonstrated commitment to children’s rights.
• Interest: Interest in development-related fields, humanitarian work, and children’s rights;
• Language skills: Written and spoken proficiency in English and one of the National Languages (Sinhala / Tamil)
• Good oral and written communications skills and demonstrated research abilities and interest
• Internet proficiency as well as proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.

To be considered for an internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years. - Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• Be proficient in at least one of UNICEF's working languages: English, French or Spanish. Fluency in the working language of the office you are applying to is required.
• Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
• Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and
• Have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.
• Individuals must demonstrate excellent academic performance through recent university or institution records.
• Additional consideration will be given for any past experience.
