**OVERVIEW** ------------ Grade : Parent Sector : Education Sector (ED) Duty Station: Caracas Classification of duty station: \[\[filter12\]\] Standard Duration of Assignement: \[\[filter13\]\] Job Family: Education Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : Internal and external candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 07-DECEMBER-2022 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- The UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education (UNESCO IESALC) is developing a project to support policy makers, higher education institutions (HEIs), civil society and other interest actors by offering UNESCO´s guidelines on responding to and preventing violence against women (VAW) in the tertiary education sector. Violence against women is a universal phenomenon that occurs in various spaces, including government, private sector and higher education institutions, to name a few. Within the higher education context, it is fair to affirm the phenomenon is of global scope, despite lack of representative data about the problem in the global South. It is a serious human rights violation, rooted in gender inequality, discrimination and persisting cultural and social norms unfavorable to women. This calls for the analysis and further promotion and establishment of strong guidelines at HEIs worldwide as a guiding principle for building non-violent and a more sustainable tertiary education system. Long Description ---------------- Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO IESALC, and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the intern will contribute to the execution of the Project under the Education Programme and Extra Budgetary projects at UNESCO IESALC. Working as part of the interdisciplinary team at UNESCO IESALC, in collaboration with education stakeholders at different levels, the intern will carry out the following duties and responsibilities: 1. Assist in collecting and analyzing data. 2. Facilitate with case selection and validation of cases. 3. Contribute to organization of online meetings. 4. Support the preparation of various project deliverables, such as a written report, a video campaign, design and translation of documents, etc. 5. Support in advocacy and outreach activities. 6. Carry out any other duty considered relevant to the fulfilment of the work plan of the project at the request of the Director/Project Coordinator. Long Description ---------------- After completion of the assignment, the intern will have: 1\. Acquired an in-depth knowledge of the Education-sector programme (with a focus on Higher Education and Violence against women) related to UNESCO’s areas of competence. 2\. Learnt how to deal with diverse stakeholders from various cultural backgrounds. 3\. Attained project management; setting particular objectives and develop appropriate mediation, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. 4\. Gained solid working knowledge of the operations of and with an intergovernmental organization. 5\. Strengthened his/her analytical, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
