You have:

  • Master’s (or currently enrolled in a postgraduate program) in fields such as energy systems, Sustainability, public policy, economics, environmental studies, or related fields.
  • Understanding of India’s power sector, particularly electricity distribution utilities and the clean energy transition.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Prior exposure to sustainability reporting, ESG frameworks, or regulatory filings is a plus.

About the Internship

WRI India’s Energy Program is seeking two interns to support our work in the domain of issues and challenges relating to electricity utilities, preferably distribution utilities. While a primary area of engagement will be assisting with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) disclosures for utilities, the interns will also contribute to broader programmatic work. This includes supporting ongoing initiatives focused on sub-national energy transitions, promoting clean energy adoption, and ensuring equitable development outcomes through the energy transition.

The work will involve engagement with leading stakeholders in the power sector. The interns will contribute to research, data analysis, documentation, and coordination efforts that support WRI India’s advisory and implementation activities. This opportunity provides direct exposure to the intersection of sustainability, governance, and the transformation of the electricity sector in India.

In case the internship period involves developing an internship report in any form to be submitted to the parent institution, the candidates should have a research topic aligned with the primary area of engagement mentioned above.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Documentation

  • Support background research and literature reviews on ESG disclosure practices in the electricity and infrastructure sectors.
  • Assist in developing and refining ESG reporting frameworks tailored to the utility sector.
  • Conduct reviews of publicly available reports, regulatory orders, and policies related to electricity distribution companies.
  • Help compile illustrative case studies of good practices and innovations under ESG themes.
  • Contribute to research on energy transition policies, clean energy implementation, and electricity sector reform.
  • Supporting in communications with stakeholders such as project partners, utilities, and experts, including organising, convening and field visits.

Data & Analysis

  • Collect, clean, and organize quantitative and qualitative data relevant to ESG indicators (environmental, social, governance).
  • Support data-driven analysis of electricity distribution utilities, clean energy trends, and policy impacts.
  • Support drafting of working documents, briefs, and presentation material for internal and external dissemination

Qualifications

  • Master’s (or currently enrolled in a postgraduate program) in fields such as energy systems, Sustainability, public policy, economics, environmental studies, or related fields.
  • Understanding of India’s power sector, particularly electricity distribution utilities and the clean energy transition.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred

  • Prior exposure to sustainability reporting, ESG frameworks, or regulatory filings is a plus.

Additional Information

  • The role may involve travel to states where the ESG-related work is being implemented.

Number of Positions: 2

Location: Preferably Delhi

Duration: 5 months

Stipend: ₹25,000 per month
