Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; women’s empowerment; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace, and security.

UN Women’s Strategic Plan 2022-2025 focuses on integrated approaches to address the root causes of inequality. One of the lessons learned from the past decade is the need to enhance partnerships providing a key comparative advantage for UN Women leveraging its role as a leading champion for women and girls at the centre of the global architecture of gender equality. UN Women is a convener and supporter of multi-partner platforms, strategies and dialogues between governments, civil society, the private sector and other stakeholders, to build broad-based support for the gender equality agenda. UN Women is broadening and expanding existing partnerships, with a continuous increased focus on strengthened relationships with the private sector and the International Financing Institutions (IFIs), as well as think thanks and research institutions.

Under the overall leadership of the Director of the Nordic Liaison Office, UN Women is looking to recruit a junior consultant to support the office in enhancing and deepening ongoing initiatives with the Nordic private sector and the financial institutions in the Nordic countries for deepened collaboration and accelerated action on gender equality in the context UN Women initiatives as well for longer-term engagement across UN Women’s portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities

The junior consultant will support the expansion and strengthening of relationships with the Nordic private sector and the Nordic Development Finance Institutions and contribute to the development of enhanced collaboration with identified partners.

The objective of the consultancy is threefold: (i) to support the office in the strategic engagement of the Nordic private sector and to support the office in the relationship with the Nordic Development Finance Institutions; (ii) to support the office in the following up with private sector actor Islandsbanki on gender bonds and sustainable financing; and (iii) to support in the preparation of annual consultations with Nordic partners as well as the People’s Meeting in Denmark.

Scope of Work and Responsibilities

Provide support to partnerships with the Nordic private sector and Nordic Development Finance Institutions

  1. Support the office in formalizing collaboration with IFU, Nordic Development Fund and Finnfund through MOUs and support in the continuation of the strategic engagement with Swedfund and Norfund
  2. Support the office in strategic engagement with Nordic private sector actors on gender bonds, including supporting communication with new or established partners.
  3. Support the office in structuring private sector partnership documents and summaries.

    Analytical background support for the Nordic Liaison Office

    1. Support the office in organizing and carrying out annual consultations with Nordic partners.

    2. Support the office in organizing and planning the People’s Meeting in Denmark.

Deliverables:

Provide support to partnerships with the Nordic private sector and Nordic Development Finance Institutions

  1. Support the office in establishing MOUs with IFU, Nordic Development Fund and Finnfund and support in the strategic engagement with Swedfund and Norfund, including relevant research and background analysis, scheduling meetings, taking meeting notes, and related communication activities. (8 days)
  2. Support the office in the strategic engagement with Islandsbanki on gender bonds and sustainable financing, including relevant background research and analysis, scheduling meetings, taking meeting notes, and related communication activities. (7 days)
  3. Support the office in data management and restructuring partnership documents and summaries on the M drive (3 days)

Analytical background support for the Nordic Liaison Office

  1. Support the office in preparing for the Icelandic, Norwegian, and Danish annual consultations in drafting briefing packages, talking points, and organization around the high-level meetings (6 days)

  2. Support the office in preparing for the People’s Meeting in Denmark through background documents, communication activities, and supporting organizational and coordination tasks (4 days)

Required Skills and Experience of Consultant

  • Master’s Degree in Political Science, International Development, Gender Studies, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and advocating on gender issues.
  • Experience in planning and organizing complex events.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting high-level events such as annual consultations.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting engagement with the Nordic private sector, Nordic Development Finance Institutions, or similar.
  • Experience working with the UN is an advantage.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in the English language is required, with strong, confident command of both written and oral English. Fluency in Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, or Swedish is required
