How can you make a difference?

The intern will be responsible for analysing and documenting the ongoing implementation processes, field lessons, and early manifestations of change (stories of change) for various social and behaviour change (SBC) interventions under Health and Nutrition which have been initiated in the past two years. This will include Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) for COVID-19 and routine immunization; prevention, early detection, and treatment of child wasting; as well as nurturing care parenting for early childhood care and development. The documentation process will also focus on consolidating program documents and field data into digestible pieces for local, regional, and international dissemination. Key areas of focus will include changes in knowledge, skills, norms, self-efficacy, ability to act, and behavioural practices linked to key program strategies and interventions in vulnerable communities. Additionally, the intern will document lessons and changes in capacities from frontline health workers who benefit from various SBC and community engagement capacity development initiatives.

Key roles and responsibilities:

The intern will work under the direct supervision of the SBC Specialist to undertake the following tasks:

  • Document lessons and impact of various SBC interventions under Health and Nutrition, including COVID-19 vaccination, routine immunisation, child wasting and integrated parenting.
  • Document key lessons and possible changes in capacities for frontline health workers who benefit from various SBC and community engagement capacity development initiatives
  • Review social and community listening reports on a regular basis to derive valuable insights that can inform and improve ongoing SBC and community engagement initiatives.
  • Consolidate program documents and field data into digestible pieces for local, regional, and international dissemination
  • Participate in field monitoring visits, implementation research, and other data collection activities to inform the above tasks.
  • Participate in periodic family visits and community discussions to observe the impact and influence of the SBC interventions on nutrition care practices.
  • Update Enterprise Content Management (ECM) SharePoint sites for the Health and Nutrition Section and SBC Unit with relevant knowledge management products and resources from the above activities
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
  • Support the development and publication of manuscripts and articles in peer-reviewed journals, global newsletters, etc.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Undergraduate degree in Anthropology, Behavioral Science, international studies or a related field.
  • Strong background in behavioral science, anthropology, communication, or related disciplines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experienced in documenting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data of development/aid programmes
  • Skilled in synthesizing complex information into clear reports that is engaging, reader/user-friendly.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Previous experience in Cambodia or similar country context with an NGO or UN agency is an asset.

The intern should be:

  • Sensitive to child rights and child safeguarding principles
  • Sensitive to a multi-culture environment
  • Willingness to travel to the field when necessary.

Availability:

  • Desired period of up to 6 months, Mon - Fri (full time- 5 days per week)
  • In-country presence is required, therefore, applicants based in Cambodia would be preferred

Conditions of the Internship:

Interns with UNICEF may be remunerated with a living allowance, depending on the specific conditions. Preferably the costs associated must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements to take on this assignment.
