Background:

The Political Affairs Unit (OPA) is part of the Office of Political Affairs and Communications (OPAC), in the OSCE Mission in Kosovo. The role of this unit is to ensure all Mission activities and outputs are in line with the mandate and policy priorities given by the OSCE Permanent Council. The unit serves as the point of final clearance of all documents, reports, activity proposals, and other Mission outputs. Additionally, in co-operation with colleagues all across the Mission, the unit produces a number of distinct reports to Vienna, including the Daily Municipal Briefings, Weekly Activity Reports, the bi-annual Permanent Council Reports, as well as ad-hoc Spot Reports. It is also responsible for providing political briefings, advice, and analysis to the Head of Mission and Secretariat, as well as drafting and/or clearing all speeches, talking points, and presentations for senior management. The OPA is recruiting International Intern who is looking to gain experience and support the unit in in political analyses, gathering information, preparing Talking Points, summary from meetings and other files that OPA usually drafts or prepares. Duration of the Internship with the Office of Political Affairs is 6 months.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The Intern, under the supervision of the National Political Affairs Officer in the Office of Political Affairs and Communications, will learn about the work of OSCE Mission in Kosovo, and be acquainted with OPA work. The Intern will support the work of Office by carrying out the following tasks: - Assist in preparation of weekly reports, spot reports and any other written documents requested by the Head of Mission; - When needed, assist the political officers with compiling Daily Municipal Briefings; - In track all incoming taskings for the Office, record them in a designated folder and liaise with appropriate political officer to complete the tasking; - Update and distribute the tasking spreadsheet and alert direct supervisor of upcoming and urgent taskings; - Attend and contribute to regular internal meetings of the Office of Political Affairs and, when necessary, departmental meetings. - Accompany political officers on field trips to internal OSCE events/meetings as well as to external meetings; - Take meetings notes as required; - Assist with any other tasks as requested by the head of the Office of Political Affairs and Communication, or direct supervisor.

Necessary Qualifications:

- Be not older than 30 years on the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice and have completed two years of full-time post-secondary education in an accredited institution or have completed a first or advanced degree in a field relevant to the OSCE’s mandate no longer than two years before the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice;

- A degree in political science, international relations or other relevant field required; - Knowledge of the political situation in Kosovo and Southeastern Europe is highly desirable; - Excellent written and spoken English is essential; - Good analytical and drafting skills are essential; - Good organizational skills with ability to process and classify information quickly and efficiently; - Excellent IT knowledge, familiarity with Microsoft Office and Internet applications; - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity; - While not a requirement, previous working experience with non-governmental, governmental and/or international organizations is desirable; experience with drafting of relevant publications is a strong asset.

Remuneration Package:

In lieu of remuneration the OSCE Mission in Kosovo will contribute towards the cost of living of international interns who are non-residents at the duty station (place of assignment), such compensation is equivalent to 10% of the applicable BLA rate. Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna health insurance scheme. The internship does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
