UNICEF Nepal is looking for a highly motivated individual contractor to provide technical support and manage the JOA
funded project on “Improving access to eco-cookstoves and establishing green zones at schools and health facilities in
Nepal to address afforestation and air pollution (ECO Zone)”. S/he will also contribute to the integration of Climate
Change and Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction (CEED) into UNICEF Nepal’s new country programme design as
well as support the ongoing and emerging programme and advocacy work on CEED.
UNICEF Nepal works at national, provincial and local level to support the Government of Nepal, while also working
with civil society organizations and research institutions, to build resilience to climate change and reduce the impacts
caused by environmental degradation, according to national strategies and policies. Working in partnership with Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA), UNICEF aims to establish a virtuous cycle of human development to enable local communities to conserve forests, improve maternal and child health and enhance local livelihood opportunities for 12,000 rural households across six municipalities in Karnali and Sudur Pashchim Provinces.
The individual contractor is expected to provide intense technical support to the team and partners for addressing the capacity gaps
in successful implementation of the project and thus achieving the intended results. S/he will also closely support the
Chief-Emergency/ Emergency Specialist for overall management of the project while undertaking some day-to-day management functions as delegated.
UNICEF’s Strategic Plan (2022-2025) recognizes that climate change and environmental degradation are existential
threats to a child’s ability to survive, grow, and thrive, that ultimately impinge their rights as enshrined in the
Convention on the Rights of the Child. UNICEF’s new Strategic Plan draws stronger links between responses to climate
change and disaster risk reduction as children increasingly need holistic solutions that address both sudden-onset
impacts of disasters and climate change such as floods and resilient solutions that promote climate-smart
development, including through empowering young people to be climate and environmental champions.

- Identify the capacity gaps, develop and implement capacity development plan of ECO Zone project
- Support for the overall management of the ECO Zone project
- Strengthen the M&E and reporting of the ECO Zone project
- Manage/lead the carbon trading component of the ECO Zone project including development and implementation of business model
- Identify and facilitate new partnership and funding opportunities for ECO Zone project and other CEED works
- Develop and disseminate knowledge products on ECO Zone project
- Support mainstreaming CEED into Country Programme Document (CPD) and plans
- Contribute to ongoing and emerging CEED related programmes
- Contribute to the climate change advocacy work

Duration: The consultancy will be for the period of 11 months tentatively starting from 01 June 2022.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Minimum Qualifications required (Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required)
- Master’s degree in Environment/Sustainability science or climate change-related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in carbon market and/or climate financing
- Experience of similar work in developing country
- Good understanding of the government system in Nepal and knowledge on climate-related policies, plans and strategies.
- Good relationship with stakeholders in Nepal working in the areas of climate change
- Planning and organizational skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to analyze, evaluate and synthesize information
- Creative skills to develop training materials
- Facilitation skills
- Skills in standard Microsoft operating products
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships.
- Fluency in English is required.

Remarks:
Request to submit financial proposal as per deliverable in USD. The fee against each deliverable should be all-inclusive – professional fees, international travel, DSA in Nepal. Travel cost and DSA for local field trips within Nepal will be arranged separately by UNICEF.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
