- Background and Rationale
The Africa Regional Mechanism of the Major Groups and other Stakeholders (ARMMGOS) - formerly known as Africa Regional Civil Society Engagement Mechanism (ARCSEM) - was officially launched on the 24th February 2020 at the sixth session of the African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD).
The ARMMGOS is an independent mechanism that facilitates the participation of Major Groups and other Stakeholders (MGoS), and Civil Society Organizations’ based in Africa in regional and global United Nations Sustainable Development processes. Through its structures, the Africa Regional Mechanism of the Major Groups and other Stakeholders, will reach out to civil society organizations in all African countries, sub-regional and thematic networks, major groups, other stakeholder groupings, and key regional constituencies to share information with them on regional and global policy debates and processes on sustainable development, promote civil society consultations and dialogue, support national and regional advocacy and facilitate the participation of a diverse range of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and marginalized groups in regional and global level dialogues and processes on Sustainable Development under the United Nation.
- Objectives
The objective of the International Individual Contractor is to support the Africa Regional Mechanism of the Major Groups and other Stakeholders (ARMMGOS) to actively engage in the review and follow-up of the Agenda 2030 and the Agenda 2063.
Concretely the International Individual Contractor aims at strengthening the network of Major Groups and other Stakeholders in order to encourage their contribution into the Voluntary National Review (VNR) and Voluntary Local Review (VLR) as well as to foster their participation and visibility at the 7th session of African Regional Forum on Sustainable to be held in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, in March 2021.
- Scope and Tasks of Work
The International Individual Contractor will focus on support to the Africa Regional Mechanism of the Major Groups and other Stakeholders (ARMMGOS) to actively engage in the review and follow-up of the Agenda 2030 and the Agenda 2063. and will be executed in accordance with the Action Plan that will be given by the Supervisor.
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Green and Blue Economy Section (GBES) and the direct supervision of the Officer in charge of the coordination of the ARFSD, the International Individual Contractor will assume the following responsibilities:
(i) Liaise with Africa Regional Mechanism of the Major Groups and other Stakeholders (ARMMGoS) representatives (co-chairs and the steering committee) (ii) Organize meetings with the co-chairs, steering committee and with all ARMMGoS members: prepare agenda, send invitation and prepare minutes of the meetings. Follow-up on agreed activities. (iii) Contribute, in close collaboration with the co-chairs and the steering committee to build a strong governance system (iv) Implement and monitor to the ARMMGoS programme of work (v) In close collaboration with ARMMGoS and ECA, discuss on a funding strategy for ARMMGoS.
Qualifications/special skills Advanced University Degree (Master's Degree or Equivalent), in economics, production economics, development economics, sustainable development, environmental/ natural resource management or related discipline is required. A minimum of two year of progressively responsible experience at the national and/or international level with African civil society, major groups and other stakeholders is required.
Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this assignment, fluency in English and French is required.
