Strategic Partnerships Pillar within the External Relations Unit

At the regional office, the Strategic Partnerships Pillar is one of the three functional pillars the External Relations unit (covering regional Partnerships & RM, Advocacy and Communications). The Strategic Partnerships Pillar is in charge of building partnerships with bilateral partners as well as private sector entities, non-profit organisations and the media. In addition, the Strategic Partnerships team supports country offices with their private sector engagement efforts and helps build their resource mobilisation capacity.

Scope of Work

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Head of External Relations, the Strategic Partnerships International Consultant supports the development and management of UN Women’s relationships with strategic partners in the region, with a particular focus on engagement with bilateral partners. The Consultant acts as the co-ordinator for the due diligence process for new partnership development with the private sector. The Consultant also ensures timely resource mobilisation support to the regional office and (multi-)country offices in Asia and the Pacific as well as supporting the overall execution of the strategic partnerships and resource mobilisation strategy.

  • Prepares briefing notes in support of resource mobilization and engagement activities;
  • Supports the coordination of ROAP’s engagement with existing strategic partnerships with bilateral;
  • Supports the coordination of the Gender Equality Partners Coordination Group;
  • Supports the development of project proposals and the coordination between involved parties;
  • Supports Country Offices (COs)with their RM and partnerships efforts through quarterly calls, webinars, and other support as requested by COs;
  • As part of the broader External Relations unit, ensures the dynamic knowledge exchange and capacity building to RO units and COs on strategic partnerships (bilateral engagement) and Due Diligence;
  • Provides institutional support by identifying and conducting research into priority areas of bilateral partners and supporting internal outreach processes; and
  • Manages risk: Acts as the co-ordinator for the due diligence process for new partnership development (focus on corporate prospects) and liaises with other risk management departments, including communications, to ensure risk through new partnerships is both identified and managed.

Monthly Status Report provided. This report can include updates on progress in the following areas of work:

  • Briefing notes and materials prepared for high-level consultations and meetings, and missions for ROAP Senior Leadership and HQ Executive Leadership.
  • Briefing notes, materials and meeting summaries as part of the Quarterly GEPCG meetings.
  • Due Diligence support provided to Regional Office units and Country Offices.
  • Donor intelligence and research conducted.
  • Materials prepared for presentations to partners, HQ Executive Leadership, and internal meetings to NatComs.
  • Capacity Building and Knowledge Management to colleagues in the region on engagement with bilateral partners.

Supervision

The consultant will work under the supervision of the Regional Head of External Relations. UN Women will provide the consultant with a work laptop and a workstation if the consultant is based in Bangkok. If home-based/flexible location, then the laptop and workstation will not be provided. In the event, that the consultant needs to travel during the consultancy for assignment-related purposes, UN Women will bear the costs of requested travel expenses.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: At least a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, International Relations, Economics, Marketing, Communications, or other related field.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of professional work experience with bilateral partners, the private sector and other donors/partners.

Language requirement: Proficiency in English. Working knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Contract period and work location

This a 12-month contract commencing on 1 December 2021 and ending on 30 November 2022. The International Consultant will ideally be based in Bangkok, Thailand.

Only the candidates who have attained a minimum of 70% of total points will be considered as technically-qualified candidates who may be contacted for validation interview.
