Strategic Partnerships Pillar within the External Relations Unit

At the regional office, the Strategic Partnerships Pillar is one of the three functional pillars of the External Relations unit (covering regional Partnerships & RM, Advocacy and Communications). The Strategic Partnerships Pillar focuses on building partnerships with bilateral partners as well as private sector entities, non-profit organizations, and the media. In addition, the Strategic Partnerships team supports country offices with their private sector fundraising and engagement efforts and helps build their resource mobilization capacity.

Scope of Work

The purpose of the consultancy is to assist the External Relations unit in conducting extensive business and strategic analysis of UN Women’s historical and current fundraising performance and trends, be the focal point for ROAP on Leads, as well as other business process and analysis needs for UN Women ROAP. This role will be key in providing both the regional office and (multi)country offices in Asia and the Pacific the strategic business intelligence and analysis they need to support the overall execution of the strategic partnerships and resource mobilisation strategy, as well as reinforce a data-driven approach in funds mobilization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifying, designing, developing and implementing business intelligence to capture, consolidate, organize, analyze and report on UN Women’s funding trends and performance in the Asia-Pacific region;
  • Providing real-time data to management (both ROAP and Country Offices) to make strategic decisions and enable the mobilization of resources from various income sources
  • Support the content mapping and establishing a systematic process for the Regional External Relations Community of Practice;
  • Inputs and support provided to the development of the Regional Strategic Note;
  • Support COs (Country Offices) with Leads (i.e. updating/cleaning their leads entries), and other support as requested by COs;

Monthly Status Report provided. This report can include updates on the progress in any of the following areas of work:

  • Regional, country-specific and donor Power BI report
  • Quarterly status update reports on Leads
  • Monthly funding analyses
  • Content mapping and work related to the Regional External Relations Community of Practice
  • Inputs to regional strategic note development (as required)

Every 15th of each months starting on 15 February

Required Skills and Experience

  • Education:

    • At least a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, International Relations, Economics, Statistics or other related field.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years of professional work experience in strategic partnerships analysis, business analysis and/or business/donor intelligence is required;
    • Knowledge/experience of coding languages such as Python is an asset;
    • Experience using data visualization tools such as Power BI is an asset; and
    • Experience with the UN system is an asset.
  • Language requirement:

    • Proficiency in English. Working knowledge of another UN language is desirable
  • Supervision

The consultant will work under the supervision of the Regional Head of External Relations. UN Women will provide the consultant with a work laptop and a workstation if the consultant is based in Bangkok. If home-based/flexible location, then the laptop and workstation will not be provided. In the event, that the consultant needs to travel during the consultancy for assignment-related purposes, UN Women will bear the costs of requested travel expenses.

Contract period and work location

This a 12-month contract commencing on 17 January 2022 and ending on 31 December 2022. The International Consultant will be based out of Bangkok, Thailand.
