How can you make a difference?

  • Conduct and coordinate After Action Reviews (AARs) activities post epidemics and Intra Action Reviews (IAR) during protracted public health emergencies.
  • Coordinate operational research across work streams for process improvement.
  • Develop operations research proposals and guidelines for implementation in collaboration with division work streams.
  • Provide technical guidance to member states on scientific writing, big data collection and documentation.
  • Facilitate dissemination of research results at regional and international conferences in collaboration with member states.
  • Work closely with NPHIs and Research Division to compile Africa CDC EPR research priorities.
  • Conduct regular event monitoring and risk assessment and emergency grading and provide technical recommendations.
  • Provide technical guidance on risk assessment, risk ranking and event grading processes and activities to member states.
  • Facilitate the establishment of early warning systems and indicators for event detection in collaboration with Preparedness and Response work streams.
  • Develop guidelines and SOPs on risk ranking and event grading in collaboration with Surveillance and Disease Intelligence.
  • Archive and maintain a database of public health events on the African continent.
  • Support MS in conducting operational studies during disease outbreaks and other PH Emergencies.
  • Develop policy, strategic and operational guidelines (Frameworks, policy briefs, SOPs/TORs) for conducting After Action Reviews/Intra-Action Reviews to assess and improve the emergency response in the African Continent

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Master’s Degree in public health, or communication (doctoral degree is desirable);
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in research, health education, or health communication, knowledge management, knowledge translation/implementation science, management.
  • Must be conversant with survey design and questionnaire development and able to work with the different databases; with data management programs such as Epi Info, SPSS

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
