You have:
- Master Level or Equivalent in social science, communications, political science, sociology, anthropology, journalism or a related field.
- At least 5 years of progressively relevant professional experience in media or advocacy work.
- Excellent analytical and writing skills, ideally in advocacy strategy development.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively and set priorities.
- Creative thinking and ability to take initiative.
- Familiarity with gender issues related to women's empowerment.
- Proficiency in computer and office software, design documents using InDesign, and photo editing using Photoshop.
- Knowledge of how to run electronic media platforms.

UN Women in Sudan is fulfilling the gender coordination mandate of the Agency and is also supporting the priorities of the government of Sudan in building sustainable peace, promoting a people centered economic reform and strengthening governance mechanisms and systems for the full enjoyment of the human rights of all citizens. Following the widely acclaimed role played by women in the call for change, and the determination they have shown in promoting their rights through their effective participation in all sectors, UN Women Executive Director is coming to Sudan for a solidarity visit to support the women’s agenda.
To give a high level of visibility to this mission, the Sudan Country Office is recruiting a short-term Communications and Advocacy Consultant to cover the visit. This consultancy is to provide communication and advocacy support during the preparation, the high-level mission and after the mission of the UN Women Executive Director to Sudan in July 2021.
Duties and Responsibilities
The objective of this assignment is to provide short-term communication and advocacy expertise to the Country Office
Under direct supervision of the Country Representative and in close collaboration with the programme staff, the Senior Communication and Advocacy Consultant will be responsible for increasing UN Women visibility by enhancing information flow about the UN Women Executive Director visit to Sudan and UN Women’s work.
The Senior Communications and Advocacy Consultant will be responsible for
- Advising the Regional and Country programme communication staff and managers
- Mobilizing the support team in charge of drafting key documents and managing online presence and influence
- Overview various steps such as media relations and targeting multimedia channels (online and print)
- Coordinating, planning and preparing meetings on behalf of UN Women Country Office for advocacy, publicity and campaigning
- Prepare written materials, talking points, articles, press releases in consultation with the Country Representative.
- Coordinating the documentation of the Executive Director High level visit in Sudan through multiple channels
- Liaising with HQ, Regional Office for East and Southern Africa Communications departments to provide materials for communication for media activities (based on approval from Country Representative)
- Following the Regional Social Media Guidelines, manage social media requirements including Face Book posts, twitter and other nominated sites via the UN Women Regional Office for East and Southern Africa. This task requires consultation with relevant programme staff to obtain information about activities, sourcing information and appropriate photos and links.
- Other communication and advocacy duties performed as required by the Country Representative and programme staff where appropriate
Deliverables
- Communication Action Plan developed for the High-level mission
- Support the selection/identification of short-term resource persons (Professional videographer/Photographer or digital blogger)
- Coordinate the dissemination of at least two press releases through print and or radio and TV media
- Coordinate the dissemination of at least 25 social media releases capturing communication and advocacy messaging
- Coordinate at least one press event with local/national and international media and specific one to one media requests with principals
- Coordination the delivery of specific products: Electronic Newsletter, Photo Gallery and Album, short videos content
