You have:

• Master’s degree in environmental sciences, knowledge management, or another relevant subject is required.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in environmental sciences, knowledge management, project management or similar field is required.
• Understanding of and experience in project management, especially project closure
• Experience in content management and translation in Arabic and English
• Experience in information systems is desirable.
• Familiarity with the Iraqi and regional environmental context is required.
• Ability to conduct research and work independently.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required.

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Organizational Setting, Purpose, and Objective: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Regional Office for West Asia delivers advisory services and capacity building support to countries to achieve environment and sustainable development objectives. In order to enhance Iraq’s capacities and readiness to meet its commitments under a set of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), UNEP supported the Government of Iraq in the development of a National Environmental Information System. This system will act as the main source of information relating to the current and evolving status of the environment of Iraq. The system is designed based on six categories of environmental indicators containing 22 indicators that are presented to the user through “dashboard” approach as well as GIS maps and satellite imagery to achieve the desired environmental monitoring. The objective of this international consultancy is to finalize and closing the project, including the development of an effective capacity building and exit strategy to ensure sustainability of results. Also, the consultant will synthesize and package the project deliverables in preparation for project closure.

2. Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator for Science-Policy at UNEP the Consultant will carry-out, inter alia, the following duties and responsibilities: 1. Content Management and Exit Strategy - Manage and review previously prepared capacity building materials and modules (Arabic and English). - Ensure the content of the system and the knowledge material are technically accurate (Arabic and English). - Develop an exit strategy to ensure sustainability of results. Deliverable - D1: Finalized capacity building content, materials, modules, and system content (Arabic and English). - D2: Project exit strategy to ensure sustainability of use 2. Project wrap-up Ensure that the below outputs are completed and packaged along with the evidence and ready for project terminal evaluation: - Finalizing SOPs for the streamlining of data collection and sharing among ministries and agencies. - Validated and updated environmental data, information, and maps. - Established monitoring and evaluation mechanism. - Established and executed training programme. - Ensure that at least 2 pilot sectors updated their strategies to mainstream the environmental dimension. Deliverable - D3: Updated workplan and completed outputs in consultation with PM, MOE, and MOP. - D4: Package of completed outputs (evidence) as per the updated workplan for project closure.

Qualifications/special skills Master’s degree in environmental sciences, knowledge management, or another relevant subject is required. Minimum 5 years’ experience in environmental sciences, knowledge management, project management or similar field is required Understanding of and experience in project management, especially project closure Experience in content management and translation in Arabic and English Experience in information systems is desirable. Familiarity with the Iraqi and regional environmental context is required. Ability to conduct research and work independently.

Languages Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
