Duties and Responsibilities Organizational Setting, Purpose and Objective:

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This position is located in the Regional Office for West Asia in Beirut, Lebanon. Within delegated authority and reporting to the regional coordinator for resource efficiency, the Individual Contractor will be responsible for the coordination of the 4 following projects for the State of Kuwait: a- Low Carbon Strategy 2050 – to provide policy makers in Kuwait with a guiding document, based on solid analysis and transparent methodologies, which sets out the path towards a low-greenhouse gas (GHG) emission future across the economy. b- Developing National Programme for Chemicals Safety - The objective will be achieved through conducting a situation analysis on the status of chemicals management in the country and developing a national plan for chemical safety. c- Preparation of the National Action Plan for Sustainable Consumption and Production for 2050 - The importance and scope of the action plan require the design of large-scale consultation processes with a wide range of relevant stakeholders to ensure credibility, authority, and successful implementation of the action plan. d- Indicator Based State of Environment Report Powered by e-MISK – to represent an instrumental way of developing and communicating environmental information to decision makers.

2. Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Resource Efficiency Regional Coordinator and Climate Change coordinator, a.i, in UNEP West Asia Office, the consultant will take the overall responsibility of the following: o Track and monitor assigned project activities and deliverables o Maintain knowledge and records management system to the implementation of the assigned projects. o Development of required technical reports for submission to UNEP’s Units o Prepare and draft concept notes when applicable o Prepare reporting requirements reports on the progress of the four projects o Data collection and stakeholder mapping o Contribute with the program officers in programmatic and administrative tasks related to the Projects o Develop program schedules, oversee budgeting expenses, connect with event venues and write instructional documents. o Elaborate scope of work for technical components, including tracking the fund expenditure, and solicitation of technical expertise and partners for timely and quality project implementation

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field is required. Supplementary training in Project Management, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources or related areas is desirable. Good computer skills in Windows, and other computer applications such MS outlook, word processing, and Excel are desirable. Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of work experience in Project management, administrative services, finance, accounting, audit, human resources, or related area is required. Experience in working with other UN system entities or any other international organization is desirable. Good understanding of the environmental sustainability of the region is desirable Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
