Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

To provide high quality photographs, stories and short videos of UNICEF Eswatini programs, including Maternal Child and Adolescent health, including COVID-19 vaccine roll out activities and Life-long learning protection and development.

Scope of Work:

UNICEF 2021-2025 country programme goal is aligned with the National Development Plan 2019–2022, outcome 3, “enhanced social and human capital development” focusing on access to health and education, reduction of poverty, and youth participation. Under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2021–2025, the overall goal of the country programme is to contribute to national efforts to enable children, adolescents, and women to realize their rights through a progressively reduction in disparities and inequities. To achieve this goal, the country programme has the following programme components: (a) maternal, child and adolescent health; (b) lifelong learning, protection, and development; and (c) social policy.

The Maternal Child and Adolescent health component aims to ensure that by 2025, all children, adolescents, young people, women and men in Eswatini, especially those left behind, have access to equitable, integrated, quality essential health-care services including during emergencies. Key programmes include: 1. Maternal, Newborn and child health 2. Nutrition 3. Water and Sanitation (WASH) 4. Paediatric HIV treatment and care and PMTCT 5. COVID-19 vaccine roll out activities

The Life-long learning, protection and development component aims to ensure that by 2025, all children and adolescents in Eswatini are protected from violence and HIV, are learning and are equipped with the skills to become active citizens”. Key programs include: 1. Education 2. Child protection 3. HIV prevention

UNICEF and donors increasingly request for photo coverage of specific events, visits and programme areas showcasing the results of the programme and the donor branding shot by professional photographers. Therefore, UNICEF Eswatini needs recent quality photos and short videos showing all UNICEF supported programmes and emergency interventions to be used for our advocacy and communication including donor visibility agreements, publications, visibility materials, C4D materials, website, social media and other purposes.

Under the supervision of the UNICEF Eswatini Communication Specialist, and in consultation with UNICEF program staff, and project implementing partners, the photographer will document the implementation of UNICEF activities in Eswatini through videography and photography covering the different MCAH and LLPD programmes. The key tasks to be undertaken in carrying out and completing the assignment will include the following: • Take high-resolution photos and write captions for different events, visits, and occasions. • Document programme interventions in all regions of the country and produce photos in line with Human Interest Stories as per the UNICEF guideline for photography. • Develop photo stories for specific donors • Produce short videos for digital media purpose using still photos and video footage from field visit. • Produce videos for internal communication purposes that could consist of messages from Representative and internal advocacy videos.

Expected Deliverables

· A full set RAW and selected Jpeg photos, containing photo credit and full captions and including signed consent forms, provided to UNICEF not later than 3 working days after the assignment and earlier when it concerns specific assignments. · Video materials provided in formats that are applicable to UNICEF platforms, broadcasters, online news and social media outlets. · Final report of the consultancy.

Work Assignment Overview

The consultant will make at least 15 work days available to UNICEF. This includes production days, travel days and postproduction days. As a general rule, for every four productions days, the photographer will need one postproduction day. Travel days are not considered as production days. The consultant will travel to the field and will work closely with UNICEF staff. Consultant should provide his / her own photography equipment, computer and office supplies. UNICEF will provide transport while on assignment during production days.

Photos should contain photo credit and full captions using UNICEF guidelines and should be able to be used by UNICEF free of rights. The photos should have a pre-set tag in the meta data.

UNICEF and the photographer will share copyright of all the photographs produced under this contract, with photographer granting to UNICEF non-exclusive world rights in perpetuity to all images.

Consultant will receive payment at the end of his/her assignment and upon receipt of deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications required:

Education: Matriculation / completion of secondary / high school education

Work experience:

A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in the field of photography is required. UN/UNICEF experience will be an additional advantage. Proven fluency in English, written and spoken is a fundamental requirement. Knowledge of the local languages is an asset.

Required Skills/Competencies: • Proven knowledge and experience in using photography for development messaging. • Excellent English writing skills. • Ability to work under pressure. • Willing and able to travel. • Communication, networking and advocacy skills. • Ability to work in a multicultural environment. • Excellent teamwork skills. • Knowledge of UNICEF programmes in Ethiopia is highly desirable • Knowledge of Ethiopian culture and customs is highly desirable • Knowledge of FTP is required. • High ethical standards and understanding of sensitivities relating to child related issues and working in a political sensitive environment. • Strong understanding of UNICEF programmes and policy, including knowledge of UNICEF guiding principles for media and branding requirements • Strong commitment to advancing the rights or women and children

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
