Expected duration 4 months

Duties and Responsibilities Organizational Setting, Purpose and Objective: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This consultancy is homebased under the supervision of the Regional Coordinator of the Finance and Economic Transformations subprogramme, of the UNEP West Asia Office (UNEP ROWA). UNEP’s work in Finance and Economic Transformations focusses on supporting regions, countries and businesses in their transition to inclusive green economies. This involves promoting green finance and investments, sustainable trade, mainstreaming of green economy pathways into sustainable development planning and sectoral policies in order to decouple (i.e. delink) economic growth and activity from environmental impact while improving human well-being and job creation. Through its focus on Inclusive Green Economies, the programme pays specific attention to the social dimensions of sustainable development and green economy. Fostering equality, equal participation and the creation of decent jobs are central to human well-being. Sustainable lifestyles and consumption patterns are also essential in this regard. Through changing behaviour and consumption patterns, powerful market signals will be sent that will enable the transition to inclusive green economies. This contract aims at supporting the designing and implementation of a Sustainable Fashion incubator and a capacity building workshop on the UNEP Sustainable Fashion Communication Playbook. The activities will be framed with the West Asia Sustainable Fashion Academy (WASFA), which is the flagship initiative established by UNEP in the West Asia region to address the fashion sector with support of the GO4SDGs initiative. , The objective of this contract is to substantively work with UNEP ROWA team to further position WASFA as an influential regional platform within the fashion industry. This will be done through rolling out and piloting the UNEP Fashion Communication Playbook and developing the Incubator Program to engage young designers through capacity building on themes related to sustainability. Drawing on UNEP's global work on textiles and sustainable fashion as well as relevant initiatives (e.g., Green Jobs for Youth Pact) and in the lead up to CoP28, the incubator program will be developed to train upcoming talents (piloted by engaging a cohort of 3 – 4 young designers) from the West Asia region.. The final result of the work with the young designers will be featured in a regional fashion magazine and launched during an event held around COP28 in UAE in hopes to raise awareness in the industry and inspire other designers to shift their work to a more sustainable way of designing garments.

Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator of the Finance and Economic Transformations subprogramme in UNEP West Asia Office, the consultant will take the overall responsibility of the following: - Develop an Incubator Program to train upcoming talents on sustainability in fashion design. - Develop a capacity building workshop with a fashion magazine team on the UNEP Sustainable Fashion Communication Playbook. - Coordinate the full editorial in a fashion magazine dedicated to showcasing the result of the Incubator Program. - Design the event held around COP28 in UAE to launch the collection designed and magazine editorial. - Mentor young fashion designers as they design the collection.
