Result of Service Under the overall leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator, in partnership with the European Union and in close coordination with the Government of Nepal, four UN agencies (UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Women, and ILO) are implementing a 46-month Joint Programme (JP) titled "Empowered Women, Prosperous Nepal (EWPN)”. From 2023 to 2026, the JP is going to be implemented at the federal level and in three provinces: Madhesh, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim.

The JP aims to unlock the potential of women and girls through strategic actions targeting the underlying drivers of gender inequality and investing in gender equality accelerators. The foreseen actions address the structural and societal barriers hampering participation of women and girls, access to and control over productive labor and resources, safe access to gender-responsive services and decision-making platforms as well as protection against the continued risks of violence, exclusion, and discrimination that women and girls continue facing in the home, family, and workplace. It strives to ensure that target groups are identified not only as action targets, but also as key contributors and empowered change agents. Women and girls, men and boys, people who are non-gender conforming, households, community actors / networks, formal institutions, relevant social, economic, and political actors in programme intervention areas are among the target groups.

While the principal implementation of the projects is the core responsibility of the different agencies, A Joint Program Coordination Unit (JPCU), recruited and reporting primality to UNICEF with secondary reporting line to the RCO will be housed in the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office to better coordinate the implementation of the JP among the above-mentioned UN agencies.
