Duties and Responsibilities 1. Organizational Setting, Purpose and Objective: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Regional Office for West Asia delivers advisory services and capacity building support to countries to achieve environment and sustainable development objectives. UNEP works closely with governments, industry, and civil society organizations around the world to develop mainstream solutions for the sound management of chemicals and waste. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) provided funding for Bahrain to develop the NIP for the Stockholm Convention on POPs. UNEP West Asia Office is the executing agency for the project and will provide the necessary technical assistance to Bahrain to fulfil the National Implementation Plan (NIP) requirement, serve as a platform for information and experience sharing at the regional level and enhance support to awareness and decision making leading to the protection of human health and the environment. Within the framework of this project, the NIP report has been developed as part of the deliverables under the project. This TOR is for an international part-time consultant to work on assisting Bahrain in the fifth reporting cycle for Stockholm Convention. The Consultant will report to the activity leader on chemicals in West Asia Office.

2. Duties and Responsibilities: The Consultant will carry-out the following duties & responsibilities: 1. Fifth Reporting Cycle for the Stockholm Convention for Bahrain 1.1 Conduct training workshop for Bahrain on the fifth reporting cycle for the Stockholm Convention 1.2 Assist the team in compiling the necessary required information that will be reflected in the fifth reporting cycle 1.3 Guide the team in filling in the collected information to complete the fifth reporting cycle for submission to the Stockholm Convention

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Master’s (or higher) in Environmental Sciences or fields related to environmental policies, chemical and waste or equivalent is required. Experience: PROFESSIONAL: - Minimum of 10 years’ experience working in the environmental field preferably on chemicals and waste management issues SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: - Strong research and excellent writing skills in English. - Familiarity with chemicals conventions and their compliance frameworks is an asset - Previous working experience with Stockholm Convention reporting. Language: Proficiency in English is required and Arabic is an asset.
