How can you make a difference?

Background

The Deputy Representative serves as the principal adviser on the overall management of the CO, development of CO policies and strategies; and under delegated authority, for coordinating and managing all phases of the Country Office Programme, from formulation to delivery of results in accordance with UNICEF’s Strategic Plans, standards of performance and accountability framework, ethics, and integrity.

With the departure of the current UNICEF Representative the Deputy Representative will be functioning as Representative a.i. for a period of 3 months and there is a need to ensure new country programme development process is well coordinated internally and benefits from prioritized inputs by all teams within UNICEF. This support is especially important at this time with regards to ensuring that agreed timelines related to the new Country Programme Development (CPD) and UNICEF inputs into the new UNSDCF development process are timely, of high quality and are well coordinated internally.

Purpose

The efficient and effective support of the Deputy Representative to the successful development of the new country programme impacts on the establishment of a healthy and protective environment for the most marginalized and vulnerable women and children in the country. This in turn contributes to maintaining and enhancing the credibility and ability of UNICEF to continue to provide programme services to protect the rights of children and promote greater social equality to enable them to survive, develop and reach their full potential in society. This consultancy will exactly ensure that the above support is in place.

Work Assignment

  1. Overall strategic programme management and leadership with specific focus on development of new CPD
  2. Partnership building with UN agencies with specific focus on ensuring UNICEF inputs into UNSDCF

Qualifications and Experience

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: social sciences, international relations, government, and public relations, public or social policy, sociology, social or community development, or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of ten years of professional development experience that combines technical and managerial leadership in development cooperation at the international level, some of which served in developing countries is required.
  • Relevant professional experience in any UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.

  • Proficient in English language.

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
