Activities and Tasks:

  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review of global and regional best practices related to how children’s rights are incorporated in the constitution.
  • *Develop a d**raft chapter on child rights to be proposed to the government for inclusion in the new constitution.*
  • Develop a roadmap for the inclusion of the Article/Chapter (advocacy game plan)
  • Conduct online brainstorming sessions/consultations with (a) national experts and key stakeholders and (b) with Children/ Adolescents on the inclusion of a chapter on child rights in the proposed new constitution.
  • Prepare a strong justification for inclusion of a chapter on child rights in the proposed new constitution (Develop a 2-pager Word document and a PowerPoint presentation to provide support to advocacy efforts).
  • Develop a final/revised chapter/article on child rights-based on inputs from children/adolescents and other key stakeholders.

Work relationships: The completion of the above tasks will be the responsibilities of the consultant. UNICEF will however assist the consultant to meet with different government officials through the provision of contacts and referrals.

Duration - 25 working days ( period of 6 months)

Tentative start date: December 2020

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  1. Education: Advanced degree in law, human rights, child rights or other related fields;
  2. Specialist skills/Training: Skills in drafting laws and frameworks in the areas of child rights, human rights, juvenile justice, child protection or other related fields
  3. Years of experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in similar work
  4. Competencies: Ability to consider the view of others with respect in a multi-cultural environment
  5. Languages required: Fluency in English is mandatory.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
