How can you make a difference?

The purpose of the consultancy is to provide support for hand hygiene related activities in ROSA and SAR country offices of UNICEF. This will include but is not limited to: Engagement with WHO/UNICEF HQ on the development of the Guidelines on “Hand Hygiene in Community Settings” engagement around all regional initiatives around the HHAFT tool, provision of technical support on hand hygiene related programming in countries

Key Assignments/Tasks:

The key assignments of this consultancy include the following:

  • As guided by the ROSA WASH specialist, provide country specific technical support on hand hygiene related programming that supports IPC or WASH in HCFs (10 days – 3 to 5 days pre-assigned to Sri Lanka)
  • Initiate, develop and implement HHAFT workshops in countries/ Indian states, which are interested in engaging with the tool for system strengthening work (up to 3 workshops at 5 days for preparation, implementation and wrap up, incl. report), if less workshops are implemented in the region, then remaining days to be assigned to country specific technical support on hand hygiene related programming
  • Engagement in relevant discussions with WHO/UNICEF on the development of the Guidelines on “Hand Hygiene in Community Settings” (3 days)
  • Peer review all hand hygiene related knowledge management products and capacity development reports on programmes and events conducted. (2 days)

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in relevant field such as in Public Health, Environmental Health, Engineering, Social Sciences or related field relevant to international WASH/Health programming.

Work Experience:

    • Minimum ten years of solid professional WASH sector experiences in the UN or other international organisation, government or the private sector of which:
    • At least seven years of experience in public health/hand hygiene issues in developing countries, at middle- level management
    • At least five years’ experience in implementing WASH and (hand) hygiene programmes essential.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of WASHFIT and IPC methodologies
    • Proven skills in facilitating trainnings, conducting webinars, meeting and conferences.
    • Strong communication skills (written and oral) in English are required.
    • Familiarity with UNICEF WASH programmes and sector systems strengthening
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment.

Language Proficiency:

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
